Small group today for our ride and not many people out riding which surprises me. Windy, but nice weather. Only four of us today, so my legs are cooked. Resting, watching some football and do it again tomorrow. Everyone must be either working or hitting the store. I'm not a glutton for punishment. Much rather shop online and ship to the house.
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.

At one point, the fastest I had been on a bike was 78km/h (a shade under 50mph). That was on an MTB, with two panniers on the back with camping stuff, down a recently regraded gravel road. I did have thoughts going through my mind, what if the Conti Town and Countrys on there at the time weren't up to the task... but I was having too much fun!

Getting ready to go on our first overnight tour in a while. We don't fit in with the Ultra Light crowd. My load is around 32lbs and it will be on the Thorn Club Tour, but I am carrying the tent, cookware and food.

Looks like Lazyass browsed through the OP's photobucket (photobucket URLs aren't anonymized, so pics are easy to trace back to a particular user) and found an unflattering photo that might undermine claims of cycling prowess. Though the photo could, in truth, support claims of gravity-assisted descents, though...

In related news, during the ride some talk turned to Shimano/Sram/Campy. Discussion seemed to align on Sram is light, but breaks, Campy is good, but weird and spendy, and Shimano is sort of the best blend...
Later in the ride a Shimano RD pulley failed and locked up the rear wheel of the bike just in front of me. No Sram bikes were harmed during the chaos that ensued.

Yes, first time doing it for me, it's a Houston shop ride. From what I hear this was a big turnout, possibly the biggest it's had.

Maybe I should call yours and see if you are really the mechanic you say you are.

There's very little stress on those pulleys, so they are usually made of plastic. It's fairly common for them to break when the chain gets wrapped, but not very common for the chain to wrap up because of the broken pulley.
You could be right, but in my experience it doesn't happen that way.

unless the pulley broke in such a way that it wedged the chain between the cage, then the rider continued pedaling hard, im not sure theres any other way that could happen
