Unless her office only has two people working there, I wouldn't hold my breath. Haven't you ever seen folks doing a perfect imitation of locusts in the coffee/break room when a homemade sweet appears?

Don't they know that professionally made is better?

I enjoy Thanksgiving Day food for the most part, but steak > turkey. I'd also say Chinese > turkey.

We have been doing fried chicken for Thanksgiving with a group of 20-30 folks for about 15 years now. We still have smoked and/or fried turkey and stuffing, cranberries and such, but the fried chicken is the reason for being there. Professionally fried, of course. What a nice change of pace. We deprive ourselves of it all year long and just have it to celebrate having made another year on Thanksgiving. The trick is to find a chicken place open on Thanksgiving. Fortunately there is a supermarket that opens for the morning in case folks have forgotten things. There is a Church's concession in the store, and it opens half day along with the store. Otherwise we would be SOL.

Actually I wasn't totally accurate. The locust act is displayed for ANYTHING that appears in the coffee room.

Get your pumpkin pie quick because we had a poor harvest of pumpkins here in Illinois. Libby-Nestle only harvested 50% of normal and has shipped all of their inventory. When this runs out, there will be no more canned pumpkin until Fall of 2016.

The great pumpkin shortage of 2015 - Oct. 9, 2015

The nations major cannery is 5 miles from me in Morton, IL.

Plenty of apples though, so I'm good.

Damn I love peh-cahn pie. My all time favorite. Pecans are arguably the king of nuts. And Mrs. Rpen makes the best on earth...IMO. You might mistake her for a professional. But about 10 years ago or so I came down with an allergy to pecans and walnuts. Very mild, almost nothing, but still dangerous I suppose and unpleasant enough to discourage eating them on purpose. Let me tell you, hazlenut pie is good, but it just ain't the same.

Surf and turf this year.

Oooh, a nice ribeye at home does sound good. I'm gonna let the little lady decide.

rjones28 11-25-15 08:50 PM

There were some really good-looking Delmonicos at the farmer's market this week, so that sealed the deal. The surf part are NOT local lobster tails.

I think we all need sub-900 gram wheels.

183 lb weight limit. Me + heavy steel bike + a couple of full water bottles might be bumping up against that limit.

...what the hell are wheels with a 183 pound upper weight limit good for. :wtf: Except for improving the cash flow on the repair end, I mean. :)

Happy Thanksgiving day to all 'mercans in here. I am heading to NJ for family gatherings. There may or may not be pecan pie.

Happy Thanksgiving all, hanging at home with my daughter and her husband.

My man, if you were from any other city I would say I like the cut of your jib. ;)

Bah Humbug 11-26-15 08:12 AM

Happy turkey day everybody! Off to run, because running is awesome, then homemade cinnamon rolls, then Brazilian barbecue, then back home for mudslides and who-knows-what.

Trsnrtr 11-26-15 08:14 AM

Off to put Christmas wreaths on graves and then dinner with my son's in laws. Again, may or may not be pie.

was supposed to meet friends 60 miles away for bike rides @ 10, i forgot to set my alarm and woke up @ 9

oops.

BillyD 11-26-15 09:29 AM

I'm already here in the valley of the sun, at the SIL's. Watching the parade right now, planning a hike in the hills shortly, then looking forward to tons of football and food later. There WILL be pies ... sweet potato, apple, and minced meat - the latter exclusively for yours truly.

As well, my birthday fell on this holiday this year, so there may be a surprise cake. :D

:bday:
