Such a good choice. I did this... once. I kudo'd a ride for a former teammate that I now despise (he started wearing a Giro Air Attack with the visor all the time), and I tried un-kudo'ing, but I accidentally kudo'd again. He texted me within 5 minutes and invited me out for a beer.
NO THANK YOU! It was a total disaster. I'm still a little shaken.

I give kudos to everyone for everything... just like I'll wave to everyone. Cyclists, triathletes, mopeds, motorcycles, cars, trucks, squirrels, mailboxes... everything.

I know a few people who hold off on kudos because they like to be the arbiter of what is kudos worthy. I call that lame.

But isn't it lame to give kudos for everything? "Oh, aren't you terrific, you managed to get out on your bike". Really? Do people have to be complimented for doing nothing much?

If somebody is out on their bike, out for a walk, out running, swimming, playing with the dog, etc., they're not driving, sitting on the couch, and have at least suspended non-activity for a short time. I give kudos for that because they decided to do something.

It sounds like you're a little bitter that you got overlooked for a participation trophy in YMCA soccer. We are here to help you talk this out.

LOL. I'm not bitter, I'm merely curmudgeonly. I've never managed to come to terms with a world in which people are praised for being averagely unaccomplished.

You all seem to be drifting from the original, very serious post. The correct strategy is to add a comment that is actually a backhanded compliment, like "pretty good for someone who sucks so hard so much of the time" or "Nice try, but your mother still doesn't love you". Sorry if this suggestion was made earlier... I DGAF nearly enough to read it all.

Along the like/dislike drift,
I had an idea for rating drivers.
One is always scanning for clues to possible danger on the road, right?
What if cars had a license plate-like panel that would change color in response to
signals (votes) from other drivers? Collective feedback would inform the public as to the relative
safety of the driver/vehicle (terror alert?).
This could reset each 24 hrs., & could also provide feedback and possible incentive for poor drivers to improve,
and positive feedback for good driving behavior.
