Took about 15 yards and 2 other people before he actually hit the ground, but I got a tackle in the stats line :o. His team beat us 55-14 or something like that, though, and went on to win the state title.

If I have kids that want to play FB in the future, I'm not sure I'd let them. I played offensive tackle and defensive end and didn't miss an offensive snap for 3 straight years, but I was lucky. Most of the backs or WRs or QBs and LBs on our team had concussions or serious injuries at various points. I don't think I'd willingly expose my children to those same risks.

I decided against little league football at a young age. I remember trying out for the local LL team in Massachusetts when I was like 10 and thinking it was BS. Pick up games with my brothers and the neighborhood kids were much more fun.

Factually, as much as I hate it, this is absolutely true. And Belichick would have spun Dak's head so bad he'd have forgotten his own name by the end of the game. Anyone who thinks the Cowboys would have had a shot is delusional.

Me too... but I'm calling them winning by 10, with a final game-sealing score.

Oh, for the Zwift users- They released the "Volcano" route yesterday for Watopia. Nice to have additional options, although I couldn't figure out where the timed lap of the new section starts/ends.

I had the same issue. I saw the leader board with people on it, but couldn't figure out the segment.

There was a banner that triggered a powerup, and I saw the lap counter, but the counter didn't seem to work for me either.

Oh and I did wind up getting the Bose QC35ss, mostly because they were closer and cheaper than the Sony MZR1000s. And holy crap are they nice. Sweet sweet silence, or close enough.

It has power, but average based. My wife was on live chat and asked if I had any questions. That was my only question. No PM.

The subscription was a point of contention. If you don't continue to pay for it, it becomes a pricey spin bike. But it is what it is. Not my call.

I had BT noise cancelling over-hear heaphones on my xmas list. The in-laws got me these-

Deep Bass Headphones with Bluetooth & NFC | MDR-XB950BT | Sony US

Not noise canceling and they have way too much bass when you activate the "booster", but the sound quality is nice enough (keeping in mind that it's bluetooth) and so long as you're not just sitting there with nothing playing, ambient noise is never an issue so the active noise cancellation seems a little superfluous. Battery seems to last ages too.

Interesting. Well, maybe next time, but I did want the NC. Noises are really, really annoying, and these will be amazing for the flight to Kona. Along with Valium.

I'm baffled as to why someone would spend 2000 dollars for an object that can only be used indoors. Better to have a decent bike and use it on a trainer.

She has a decent bike. A 2009 Cervelo S2. And we have a smart KK Road Machine. And some rollers.

When the basement is done, I get a flat screen and Zwift. She gets the Peloton. I'm really in no position to tell her what bike schwag she can buy.

I have a nephew in JFL who suffered a fairly severe concussion this year and missed several days of school.

I'm still convinced the Brooks Pro is the only worthy saddle.

Awesome and truer words were never spoken.

I have resisted the Zwift thing simply because I don't think the trainer should be fun, or the room comfortable. Old school thinking, but there's a mental aspect to bikes that has to be addressed, and that's one way I worked on it. Once one decides that riding away is perhaps the only way to get a decent finish, you need that voice in your head to be good.

The flat screen is a no-brainer though.

Thanks. Apparently it is a Columbus double-butted frame. I just took the old 105 groupset and the old wheelset I had for now, but I am thinking that maybe I should start saving and get a newish groupset for it. Ill probably need a new cassette at the very least, having a 42-23 as my lowest gear has my knees trembing just thinking about it.

When we flew to Honolulu last year we took a nonstop from Newark. That was painful. My solution was 3 or 4 beers before we boarded, but that just made me annoy my seatmates by getting up to use the bathroom about 6 times during the flight.

While I certainly understand your thoughts here, for me, Zwift adds enough motivation to keep going more than not having it and only looking at a number on a screen. The visual cues add enough distraction to push through, while at the same time being able to ride with others does put some fun into the non workout rides.

Your last sentence is the kicker though. Unless one pulls the Internet connection after starting, Zwift will always have other riders, so simulating a solo effort isn't easy.

A guy on our team had what I now understand was a pretty serious concussion in a game my junior year and was throwing up throughout our halftime meeting, also seemed to be disoriented. We didn't have a concussion protocol and our team's trainer assured us it was just migraines, he went back in the game for the 2nd half. In fact, I don't think anyone was ever pulled from a game due to a concussion while I played, we'd just refer to someone having to sit for a while after "getting their bell rung", and then they'd be back on the field.

Pretty appalling if you think about it.

There is an archway you ride through with a little numbered sign after it that shows the amount of laps you have done.

Most excellent sunny (and windy) club ride today. Did I miss anything??

Dan333SP 01-25-17 12:00 PM

In bike news, my club team kicked someone off because of political rants on FB, and another guy is leaving because of "personal differences". I guess my quest to build a CAT 4 SUPER TEAM is on hold pending some new developments.

Knowing the appropriate time to inject political conversation is a life skill not everyone has learned.

I understand completely. Not everyone is made for the trainer, and the thought of 3 hours on that pig is akin to pulling a fingernail every 15 minutes. Zwift is a viable solution to that, and any perceived advantage I may have is likely just that. I've spent a lot of time on it this winter because of unrideable roads, and because of Zwift, I'm sure folks have gotten the needed work in, as opposed calling the trainer ride off due to sheer torture.
