Can't remember if I've trotted out my only cool sports story before, but I tackled the late, great Sean Taylor of Redskins and UM fame when I was in HS. Took about 15 yards and 2 other people before he actually hit the ground, but I got a tackle in the stats line :o. His team beat us 55-14 or something like that, though, and went on to win the state title.
If I have kids that want to play FB in the future, I'm not sure I'd let them. I played offensive tackle and defensive end and didn't miss an offensive snap for 3 straight years, but I was lucky. Most of the backs or WRs or QBs and LBs on our team had concussions or serious injuries at various points. I don't think I'd willingly expose my children to those same risks. |

Oh, for the Zwift users- They released the "Volcano" route yesterday for Watopia. Nice to have additional options, although I couldn't figure out where the timed lap of the new section starts/ends.
There was a banner that triggered a powerup, and I saw the lap counter, but the counter didn't seem to work for me either. |
Oh and I did wind up getting the Bose QC35ss, mostly because they were closer and cheaper than the Sony MZR1000s. And holy crap are they nice. Sweet sweet silence, or close enough.

I have Morning Express on in the morning while lifting, and that was advertised enough that I had to check it out. I didn't see power as an option, for one thing, and the subscription plan also surprised me. As you say, an open mind, and if it helps folks get on the bike and get to it, it will serve its purpose.
The subscription was a point of contention. If you don't continue to pay for it, it becomes a pricey spin bike. But it is what it is. Not my call. |

Deep Bass Headphones with Bluetooth & NFC | MDR-XB950BT | Sony US Not noise canceling and they have way too much bass when you activate the "booster", but the sound quality is nice enough (keeping in mind that it's bluetooth) and so long as you're not just sitting there with nothing playing, ambient noise is never an issue so the active noise cancellation seems a little superfluous. Battery seems to last ages too. |

Don't let her. Waste of money. Get a Wahoo Kickr Snap or equivalent and use Zwift, she and you will have a lot more fun.
I'm baffled as to why someone would spend 2000 dollars for an object that can only be used indoors. Better to have a decent bike and use it on a trainer. When the basement is done, I get a flat screen and Zwift. She gets the Peloton. I'm really in no position to tell her what bike schwag she can buy. |

I have a nephew in JFL who suffered a fairly severe concussion this year and missed several days of school.

I'm still convinced the Brooks Pro is the only worthy saddle.

She has a decent bike. A 2009 Cervelo S2. And we have a smart KK Road Machine. And some rollers.

I have resisted the Zwift thing simply because I don't think the trainer should be fun, or the room comfortable. Old school thinking, but there's a mental aspect to bikes that has to be addressed, and that's one way I worked on it. Once one decides that riding away is perhaps the only way to get a decent finish, you need that voice in your head to be good. The flat screen is a no-brainer though. |

Interesting. Well, maybe next time, but I did want the NC. Noises are really, really annoying, and these will be amazing for the flight to Kona. Along with Valium.

Your last sentence is the kicker though. Unless one pulls the Internet connection after starting, Zwift will always have other riders, so simulating a solo effort isn't easy. |

Pretty appalling if you think about it. |

Most excellent sunny (and windy) club ride today. Did I miss anything??
|
In bike news, my club team kicked someone off because of political rants on FB, and another guy is leaving because of "personal differences". I guess my quest to build a CAT 4 SUPER TEAM is on hold pending some new developments.

While I certainly understand your thoughts here, for me, Zwift adds enough motivation to keep going more than not having it and only looking at a number on a screen. The visual cues add enough distraction to push through, while at the same time being able to ride with others does put some fun into the non workout rides.
