I'm game - road or mtn? lmk time and place via text and I'll be there.

Been itching to do some riding.

Congratulations on the new job. Couldn't find the original post so quoting this one :D

You need enough reserve if you're going extended time with sanders, and such. This is decent.

My main usage will be as a nail gunner. I've been looking at those portable, pancake styles, 6 gallon capacity.

My stockade fence has deteriorated over time and I'm looking at some significant fence mending. I started out using screws but that is really time-consuming.

I could also see myself spray-painting in the future.

I would think that you could get it done for well under $500, including the cassettes. Hell, you should have decided this a month ago and I would have sold my 5800 levers for a song.

Mine are still sitting in my office.

I figure a couple "real" posters, a smattering of their sock puppets, some advertising spambots, maybe a handful of folks looking for the 50+ forum that got lost and confused and ended up here by mistake, and assorted others actually look at this thread. That's something, isn't it?

Telecom has been ridiculous and wild so far. Some spirited people running around here. It's no financial golden ticket, but it's been an interesting ride thus far.

Looking for a reliable, relatively quiet unit, not necessarily best bang for the buck, but reasonably priced.

I got this Craftsman pancake compressor.

I got a combo deal at one of the big box home centers about 10 years ago. Porter-Cable pancake (6 gal.?) and a finish nailer. The compressor gets fairly light use, but it's still going strong.

At the risk of being useful, I used to use one of these back when I did carpentry during summer breaks-

Air Compressors & Accessories | Portable Air Compressors | Porter Cable PCFP02003, 3.5-Gal. 135 PSI Oil-Free Pancake Compressor | 602298 - GlobalIndustrial.com

It requires an extension cord so the compressor can re-fill the tank as needed, but we were mostly doing deck work with nail guns so were always close to outlets and never had any issues. If you're working on a fence far from an outlet that could be a hassle.

If you're talking about painting the aforementioned fence, rent an airless rig for that.

Yeah, got my windsheild, too.

My grandfather always said buy the biggest air compressor you can afford.

Dan333SP 04-21-17 12:34 PM

Come to think of it, we were probably using the 6 gallon version of that Porter Cable compressor, not 3.5 gal. So exactly what RJones recommended.

Most recent compressor mission: seating the bead on my tubeless CX tires. :)

That's frames.

You should be careful not to break too many spokes on your new wheels, given those massive guads.

Road if the trails are closed, otherwise if you want I'll show you the trails. We'll take it easy... there's supposed to be a big group of church ladies out on a hike out there tomorrow morning. Lemmie ask the wife what time I'm allowed off the leash.

We have air guns here at the office that shoot 3" wood screws. Best of both worlds, you get the speed of air nailing and security of an actual screw. No clue what those guys cost or require as far as air goes (we have a building network for compressed air in the factory area... so obviously it's a big damn system).

I think that I'm going to swap out the 30s on the Assaults for some 38s for a gravel ride with RPK next weekend. Hopefully the Spec Air Blaster works okay. Also, when it comes to swapping out tubeless tires, is there a rule of thumb on whether or not to reuse the sealant?

I have the MOAC. Mother of all compressors.

5hp 65gal, installed outside.

Neighbors know when I'm gettin' busy.

Course, I forgot to insert the link. :) Not a huge footprint, but definitely not a pancake style.

No.

Today I turn onto a four-lane street and discover it's going to be repaved. Odd, because it's in good condition compared to other roads--but I digress.

So they ran that stupid groover machine over the right side of the road. Fortunately there's a parallel MUP along the road (where I had a flyby the other day) so I jumped over to it.

The other day I had to spend about 2 miles on a recently grooved road that was in the paving process. Just put my hands on the tops and visualized Tom Boonen, except minus about 200 watts.
