FYI- riding at sunset and then again at dawn the next day is a guarantee for maximal smiles per mile.

I've found, recently anyway, that if I ride in the evening, it is pure pain to try to ride the following morning. And I think I'm in decent shape for my age.

^ ^ I remember that. I wasn't posting in either thread because you people seemed too weird, but I did read the Covet thread for a while until it got merged.

I love spring because it's when all the "occasional exercisers" come out to jog or ride bikes until the summer gets too hot. Nice to see more people out exercising.

You don't wave??

I have a hard time with that, too. It seems like the only way that I can go at an easy pace is when I'm planning on a 4+ hour ride, then it's a lot easier to keep the effort/HR on the lower side of things.

edit: RIP coasting :(

Current flurries not withstanding, SOOOO many people come out of the woodwork in the spring in MN. Some may mock MUPs, but the bike trails in the TC metro are often not terribly limiting in terms of negotiating slower traffic... except in the spring, when they're absolutely choked with people gettin' their spring on. You also have to avoid the lakes at all costs, unless you're at the end of the ride and you want to cool down while enjoying the spring scenery (and by that I mean all of the beautiful people).

I have a 10sp Veloce FD in my spare parts bin. :)

Yes, that's how I remember it. My recollection of the "original" Addiction thread was about PCAD's Addict, while the original "Covet" thread was about bike schwag in general. Both kinda de-evolved into what we have now, and so the wise mods decided to consolidate one thread in the 41 which was that one...

We need an Addiction historian to verify the accuracy of this. Can someone else confirm or refute?

Confession: not so much anymore, but in the past when another rider was approaching, I would often have a mental check of hand position and elbow bend. Didn't want to look too casual.

Only if you like stereotypical Swedish traits.

Dan333SP 04-27-17 07:23 AM

Apparently a fair number of the "spring only" riders use Strava, since I have a lot of flybys. I guess someone is a pretty big boy when strava estimates they averaged 260 watts for a 16mph mostly flat ride?

Yes. Yes I do. You've seen wifey in photos. Blond > anything else.

VeloVol would be your man. Or veloGator. She seemed to be pretty sharp.

You and our brand new Prez would get along, then?

seedsbelize 04-27-17 07:28 AM

You know, it's become very difficult to change a user name. If it was easier, I'd like to become VeloLeones. The artist formerly known as seedsbelize.

We won't kill you; so no worries. But you definitely are under a cloud now, my friend. We'll keep a close eye.

ijen/velogator is very sharp and most of us really liked her. Then we had ironman-gate (which I suspect you will get to eventually, if you keep reading), and we have not seen her since. I am told she married her helicopter pilot boyfriend and I hope she is happy, but I would not hold my breath waiting for her to return to Addiction.

Yes. Big loss for us. Many of us did a "for coasting" memorial ride and posted it. Was that 2 years ago or 3??

I've been known to do this. Street shorts notwithstanding.

Could be - who knows? Do a search for "Addiction" in the title with at least 5k replies and that might shed some light.
