Well, my crabon assploders are being built in Jiyna as you read this. Tires coming in from Germany.

Won't they repel each other as do same magnetic poles?

German engineering vs. Jiynese mfg.

Lunch 1: oatmeal, pancakes, veggie protein.

Lunch 2: boiled veggies, wheat thins, bagel, avocado, something else I forgot.

Rather have a big Mac.

I think it just means a bigger assplosion.

lulz, my wife has to "go to CLE" for a few days a year too. Must be a big attorney conspiracy, right @indyfabz?

For those not in the know, it's basically an excuse for lawyers to go to happy hour with their law school buddies on a company card.

As you get older, you actually attend CLEs to learn things. Life with kids becomes too busy to disappear to conferences like before. I regularly hang out with two law school buddies, and one is my wife. Lawyers, in general, kinda suck.

I opened Road Cycling a few minutes ago, and had no fewer than 9 Addictions to choose from.
Addiction II was not among them.

Snow showers early will become steadier snow in the afternoon. High 37F. Winds NW at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of snow 70%. Snow accumulating 1 to 3 inches.

Snowing here at the moment, though there shouldn't be any accumulation. Current ride forecast for Sunday is 36° with 50% chance of precip, which I see as an improvement from the previous ~40° with 80% chance of rain. Gimme wet snow over cold rain any day of the week.

You taking this barely tested tire system out on the Dakota county gravel on Sunday?

Tires seem to be holding air well - almost no pressure drop overnight (installing new tubeless sometimes needs a couple days to completely seal). Wasn't planning on riding Sat, but I think I'll at least get in a short 20 miler as a systems check and since I couldn't get out yesterday.

Do you know the story with the Hodgkins UPS facility? One guy claimed it is actually in OH??? I always find it fishy when I see these tracking reports.

Departed - Hodgkins, IL, United States, Tuesday, 04/25/2017

Shipment Progress

Location Date Local Time Activity
Hodgkins, IN, United States

I found this:

Hodgkins INDIANA is not a city, it is merely a UPS hub. It is located somewhere in Ohio close to the border with Indiana. The reason is that Indiana allows only double trailers at max, while Ohio and Illinois allow triple trailers. Therefore, when UPS trucks travel from west to east, they drop one trailer in Hodgkins ILLINOIS, and then after going through Indiana they get the third trailer in HODGKINS IN, which is just the name of the UPS hub. When traveling east to west, UPS trucks drop the third trailer in HODGKINS IN and pick up a third trailer in HODGKINS IL.

On a similar note, I noticed while cleaning a bike yesterday that I'm using an Ultegra front derailleur with a Campagnolo crank set. I started shaking and freaking out that I'd ridden this machine 2600 miles teetering on the edge of catastrophic and instantaneous annihilation.

I got some chrome polish out and one of those white eraser pads and eradicated the "Ultegra" from the face of the derailleur and the world is now safe again and I can ride at ease.

^^^^

Isn't this, like, against the law in Italy? Be glad you're here.

I think that gets you excommunicated by the Pope.

Trsnrtr 04-27-17 06:46 AM

I apologize for having sinned the last 2600 miles on that machine. I put it together from spare parts and must not been paying attention when I picked the front derailleur out of the parts bin. I'm heading to eBay shortly to find a good used St Campagnolo FD.

I think Addiction II is "You Shall All Covet the New Addiction" but it's been a few years so I am not positive.

Sounds about right - it was a combination of the original Addiction and the Covet thread, both of which were similarly non-topical, right?

FYI- riding at sunset and then again at dawn the next day is a guarantee for maximal smiles per mile.

This is road cycling - shouldn't you be grimacing rather than smiling? HTFU.

seedsbelize 04-27-17 07:01 AM

Watching a thread open and close in the same day is somewhat less gratifying than doing my former 2 hr. route in 1.5. I am entertained by both.
Almost every time I go out, my intention is to take it easy for once. It never happens. Like coasting, the only way to rest up is to jst not ride at all for a day or two. When I come back, I'm superman.

I smile until I see another rider. Then I grimace.

I love spring because it's when all the "occasional exercisers" come out to jog or ride bikes until the summer gets too hot. Nice to see more people out exercising.

Dan333SP 04-27-17 07:04 AM

Also I got yelled at yesterday by a dog walker. Had a big yellow lab on a leash, walking towards traffic on the side of a 2 lane road with no sidewalk that is also a marked bike route. I approach, see the dog moving towards me, so I moved onto the yellow line in the middle of the road (couldn't cross, a car was coming the other way).

The dog lunges at me and misses my right ankle by a few inches. I guess he didn't choke up on the leash very much. The guy actually turns and yells, "Stay further away, *******!"

I smiled at him.

Yes, that's how I remember it. My recollection of the "original" Addiction thread was about PCAD's Addict, while the original "Covet" thread was about bike schwag in general. Both kinda de-evolved into what we have now, and so the wise mods decided to consolidate one thread in the 41 which was that one...

We need an Addiction historian to verify the accuracy of this. Can someone else confirm or refute?
