I have a 10sp Veloce FD in my spare parts bin. :)
With or without clamp? If it's clamp style, what size? I need either a 31.8 or clampless. I have a clamp. |
81°A, as we speak, and the day is getting on. Mornings and evenings are to be lived for in the hot season. Like Spring all over again, twice a day. Once the body acclimates, it's just exquisite.

Hey now - don't make me look up state obesity rankings on you.

Damn, at my height to be considered "obese" I'd have to be 250 pounds. Just 70 pounds to go, wish me luck.

I just did, you guys are ~4% less obese than Tennessee. Both of you have a lot of country fried steaks to eat before you can match Mississippi.

What's "4% less obese"? Looking at BMI, MN hovers around 25 and TN is hovering under 30 - that's a significant difference.

Yes. Big loss for us. Many of us did a "for coasting" memorial ride and posted it. Was that 2 years ago or 3??

2014 adult obesity statistics. You guys were around 24% for total adult population considered obese, TN was around 28%.
edit: though the main takeaway is that we are a damned fat country (other than CO and HI, it seems). |

So this new job I'm taking... I guess the company is expanding quickly and isn't fully prepared for all these new hires. I accepted the offer last Friday in writing. I got the link to a background check on Monday, gave them all the info they need the same day. I did the pee test on Tuesday.
They still haven't confirmed everything, and I'm supposed to start on 5/16, which means I really need to give notice by tomorrow to my current employer. I could just do it before the new guys confirm I've been cleared, but that makes me nervous. My friend that also got hired hasn't even gotten an email with the offer in writing and hasn't started the background process, so he's probably going to miss that start date unless he gives 1 week notice which is poor form. The good news is, in a rapidly growing company they will hopefully have a lot of even better open doors for hardworking intelligent people. We shall see. |
Hmmm . . . regarding obesity statistics, how does everybody feel about basing them on the BMI calculation? I don't know for sure, but I don't think BMI really takes bone-structure or the weight of muscle vs. fat into account, does it?

On an individual level, sure, you may find that a bodybuilder with 4% bodyfat is "overweight" based on that scale, but just go to your local Walmart. There aren't that many bodybuilders out there. |

It doesn't, but I think when you're looking at national statistics it is a pretty close approximation.

"True" obesity stats would have to rely on body fat percentage, and getting an accurate number for that requires a bit more work/cost to medical providers than stepping on a scale and knowing your height.

I think I would place more stock in where the average resident sits w/r/t obesity rather than how many actually cross the line (mostly because VA is tied with TN in this regard - fatties ;)).
