Let's talk about food mysteries. How come malt is disappearing? Shakes are more popular than ever, but plain, not malted. Malts used to be the standard way to have milkshakes. Mrs. rpen loves vanilla malts, but places that have the malt to add are becoming really rare. What's up?

That's a bad one. You got to it before I did. Corrected.

PPD is irrelevant; posts per mile is what counts.

rpenmanparker 05-01-17 08:38 PM

How about posts per brain fart.

Wait - do the wives leave low PPMers for high PPMers or is it the other way around?

I had a malted shake last week.

Well he had an appointment at Emory today with a specialist neurologist, and it turns out it's bulbar onset ALS, which is much, much worse :(

He seems to be degrading quickly. I missed a trip out to visit him over spring break over some stupid ass satellite test I had to do for work. Already making plans for a trip with them to florida next month.

Maybe I'll be able to take him to the Rockies for some hiking while he's still able. That may be this fall.

Sorry to hear about your pop, JT. :(

Sure, it's possible, but why is it dying off? Could it be a by-product of fast food? That Mickey D doesn't offer malt so three generations have grown up not knowing about it?

I see her posts on FB sometimes. I think she is doing photography for motorbike things and traveling on her Triumph named Bacon.

Let's take bets on the next Addiction poster to have a public meltdown or falling out and vanish for good.

My money is on Mumonkan. That guy is a jerk.

So in addition to my terrible heart muscle disease that's almost certainly genetic, I now have some chance at ALS, oh and recently found out my Grandmother has leukemia (not the bad kind, but the kind that makes it almost certain I'll get it, too). I hit the genetics lottery.

So sorry to hear this, jtaylor. As someone that didn't take several opportunities with my father before it was too late, just enjoy every minute you can. That's pretty basic, I know, but it is also very hard to do. Good luck and best wishes for you and your family.

I can't think that any place where I'd actually want to have a shake that wouldn't have malt.

Sure, I feel the same way until I try to order one. Then I find out 1) I am at a place where I really want a malt, and 2) I can't have one.

Great burger places in Austin and Houston called Hopdoddy. Great shakes. No malt.

I did. And now I'm re-thinking it. Actually, I'm glad I read it. I have even formed my own opinion, which I will keep to myself.
