LAJ 05-05-17 09:52 AM

When I was hauling the race car, every so often the owner would decide to send someone along with me. I think that just allowed the team to take their time, and give 18 hours to get to Bakersfield, instead of the normal 20. I was napping in the sleeper we had built in the shell, and next thing I know I'm wide awake after a loud noise, like something hit the side of the truck. I asked what happened, and he said we hit a rabbit. I asked him to pull over to make sure stuff is OK, as it was an awful loud rabbit. After looking at the dually fender, and seeing the green paint on it that was pretty much the same shade as the posts on the side of the road, I drove the rest of the way

Dang green rabbits always causing trouble.

WhyFi 05-05-17 09:56 AM

Oh man. I'm texting with a friend to make plans to get together and he tells me that our other buddy is out of town because his 10-yo nephew hung himself after receiving some kind of punishment from his parents. I can't imagine the combination of heartbreak and guilt that they're probably heaping upon themselves.

If her photos pop up in my FB feed, I scroll quickly past.

Must be a tough life.

Bone fish. Huh huh. Huh huh.

I know this is probably not the place to have this discussion, but a friend of mine is a teacher and they're dealing with all kinds of suicide threats related to that show "13 Reasons Why". Apparently it kinda glorifies teen suicide.

The whole thing is heartbreaking.

So sorry to hear about that. It is heartbreaking.

Hadn't even heard of it. Brief search says yeah, maybe not a great idea/implementation.

WhyFi, sorry to hear that, its the kind of thing that is always pretty tough to take. We'll all talk/think about it for a day max, but those parents' lives will never be the same. Just a huge loss...

So true, Heathpack.

I don't think I remember dark thoughts like that ever crossing my mind as a 10 year old.

There's been a lot of teen suicides in my town, as well. Not very cool. Not very cool at all, man.

LOL, Dan sent me pics on FB saying he was afraid you'd ban him if he posted them here. It was a nice damn fish, I tells ya!

I lead an annual ride in that area. Probably ride right by that very stand. In addition to ospreys, there are bald eagles in the area.

+1

As part of that grieving, there must have been some warning signs the parents missed along the way.

Slight correction- Dan sent you photos and said it'd be a violation of his friend's privacy to post them on a random public forum. :innocent:

Lovely mahi mahi indeed.

I will not stop until I get my free socks, dammit!

I've taken the wait til Monday approach.

I was freaking out and had to remind her that everyone else was doing 70 and another truck with bad brakes could arrive upon us any second! That's the closest to certain death I've been in a long time.

This got me nervous reading it. Yikes.

I went from never hauling anything in my life to pulling a 22ft trailer all over the place, up and down steep windy mountain passes with my wife, kid, and dog in the car. I'm a couple years in now and the panic moments still give me anxiety. Writing this is giving me anxiety.

Even the feeling of if you **** this up, your entire family will die, isn't enough to not get drowsy sometimes. Especially when everyone is snoozing.

No problem sending them to some random internet stranger 1 on 1, though

Also, if she's a paid model, I can't imagine she cares a whole lot about strangers seeing her pics.
