Of course it's mostly based around steps, and they do not integrate with Strava (blasphemy!). Besides the stupid obsession with steps, it does look like Garmin Connect will report data to our wellness app so I can get credit for cycling time.

Weight-bearing exercise is where they're trying to guide you. :)

Have already confirmed some people are attaching fitbits to their dogs to "earn" gift cards.

Seems legit.

What GPS device are you using? Garmin stores locally on your machine (at least mine does), so if you find the folder, you can upload all of them without the hassle of DLing from Strava.

My iphone running Cyclemeter. I could use the Health app since it works with our wellness program, but I don't know how to track rides in there either.

Agree. When it's winter, I am able to push all the bike stuff to one side and actually fit both the Saturn and the Odyssey into our two car garage. We only do this when we are expecting snow.

Ah, well in that case, I don't know how the hell you'd go about easily migrating.

I have neither a garage nor an attic. I am an addict though.

I've never used Connect, is there any way to bulk export ride data from Strava (or Cyclemeter) and bulk upload to Garmin Connect if I create an account? I want some Amazon cards.

I've been wondering whether step apps on the phone or step counting devices will record pedal stokes as steps if you wear the device clipped onto your cycling shorts on the side at the ribs/hip. Buehler...Buehler...anyone?

I wouldn't expect so - I would think that the accelerometer is looking for that abrupt stop of your foot hitting the ground. Maybe a new cyclist with a choppy pedal stroke could register some steps, but I don't think that a relatively smooth spinner would register very many.

Not Pepe's color.

Speaking of, we now have more than one Jose in the Strava Addiction group? Are they going to have to face off, Highlander-style?

Was looking forward to doing some mountain biking this weekend. Rains all day today, doesn't look good. Oh well. I've got some work to do anyway in a coffeshop.

I have my phone with me on the bike, but in a jersey pocket. It auto tracks steps but definitely doesn't pick anything up on the bike. Haven't tried holding it against my leg but like whyfi said, it depends on the sudden deceleration of a footstep to read anything. My pedal stroke is as buttery and fluid as it gets.

That was most of my problem earlier this week. When we moved, any box that had any of my stuff in it got automatically labelled GARAGE, even if it was stuff like books, or hats, etc... Most of the cleanout this week was just getting down to what actually BELONGED in the garage, and dumping the rest in the attic.

Okay. I thought it was the swing of the leg that was being registered and there would be enough of that in pedaling to also be recorded. Thanks.

There is, and I think I might have done it before... but I don't remember how at all. Or maybe it was bulk export from Polar...

Anyways, I remember golden cheetah and stuff off github being involved. Best to go ask over at the Garmin forums.

If you ride your bikes with shorts and position the phone in your pocket just right, it'll register each pedal stroke as a step. So, you could upload your ride with garmin connect, and then upload the steps from your phone for a double whammy.

If you use this technique, you owe me something from amazon with the ill-gotten gift card.

Yes, particularly apple health is terrible at this. I can 100% confirm this has been the case before I got the VAHR watch (which now overrides the phone pedometer).
