I assume that congratulations are in order.

Performance?

Bike dissatisfaction news: that moment when you're in the middle of changing a fork, you drop the bearing retainer on the cement floor, and one escapes never to be seen again. And there are no spares in my box of small bits.

I was cleaning an old Campy Nuovo Record rear derailleur and lost one of the bearing covers on the shop floor. I now have a very clean shop floor but still no jockey wheel bearing dust cover. :(

Got you beat. I am building a neat set of wheels for an occasional customer and dropped my bent 1/2 spoke that I use to transfer nipples to the spokes when lacing the wheel. Yup, it slid into the rim. Oh crap. I was sure I would never get it out and would have to buy the customer a new rim. The tool is about 4 inches long and L-shaped with the small side being about 1 inch. I had to unlace the whole wheel and spend an hour working the small leg of the tool into position over the valve hole. Finally got it to drop through the hole so I could pull it all out. Whew!

That won't happen again. I have made a new tool that is longer with a bigger bend in it. The new one won't fit into any rim shallower than about 80 mm. So far I haven't ever had to build a wheel that deep.

In case anyone is interested, Carbon-Ti hubs from Italy look really sweet. Weigh 220 g for the pair, and less pricey than other comparable super light hubs. Straight pull spokes all around.

My trail has had 7" of rain in the past week or so. :(

WhyFi 06-06-17 09:19 AM

Just heard a big crash at the intersection - one of the cars got sent through the lamp store window, Hollywood-style. I don't know why some people here have so much trouble navigating intersections.

Wife, via text: how badly damaged is the shop?
Me: other than the car sticking out of the corner window?

I skidded the tires a bit, on the way home from the shop, last night (wet road). A kid in a Civic didn't look both ways before pulling onto a 55mph road from a side street.

Oh man this is HOT!

I could dig one of these . . . with multi gears of course. Could even revive my interest in cycling.
