My family bought me a cycling tee shirt for Father's Day. Picture taken for our bedroom balcony.

I knew better, but I had to appease the sis and mom anyways. The north end of longboat where we took fam pics last night is waaaaaaaayyyyy better, btw. Any beach that ever gets rated best at something is just a beach that's fake (trucked in sand... basically money spent on it), and being known ruins it by making it crowded.

Anyways, I dug out a bike my uncle had yesterday, and did a bunch of wrenching on it and now it's quite ridable. It's a trek hybrid, but that's way better than 95% of the bikes I've seen on the road around here. The trick'll be figuring out when I can take a few hours. I'm thinking of riding along the beach road. Traffic is so bad I think I won't need to be too paranoid in the traffic. I'll try all of anna maria island and longboat key tomorrow. A beach ride on a hybrid is better _than no ride, right?

I had a Giant hybrid, and rode it for 20+ years. Those old hybrids are nice bikes.

Neither of us do, but her brother does. I think he is a serious golfer. We each have the same hat we got from him.

There's a thread on golfforums somewhere I'm sure.

Nice vay-cay shots. :thumb:

datlas, one of my favorite places to visit near Barcelona was Montserrat. We rode our tandem from the monastery up and over the mountain and down the other side and ended up at a cava. Great ride and tour of the monastery.

Haha, as a researcher I can totally identify with that. Sounds like every first attempt at any experiment. First few tries are always about discovering every thing that can go wrong (and everything that can go wrong WILL go wrong.) Still, seems like you got at least a little bit of information, plus you get a chance to try again, which should go much better, although I am sure other kinks will appear. The way experimentation works. Fwiw, two helmets, two wheels, and two positions is A LOT more than the vast majority of people will ever get to properly test, so all in all you still end up ahead.

Good to know the Empires are fast. I finally ordered some pedals so as soon as those arrive I look forward to win races thanks to the fast shoes. :)

I have to admit the whole no brakes/no coasting thing on the track does sound a bit scary. I think I'd like to give it a try but I am not sure there is a point to it. I have no way to get there apart from riding, and I am not sure I want to ride a brakeless fixed gear bike on the street. I mean, they rent bikes so the first few times I could just do that, but then what?

Trailer. If you are creative with what you have already. A QR device attached to the bed of the trailer would enable the track bike to be trailed along behind. Even a QR mount attached to the rear rack if a grocery getter would work.

Somebody just posted this on Facebook. It's a pic of me winning a criterium in 1989. I virtually lapped the field. See, I wasn't always old and fat. ;)

Flip it.

How far are you from the cathedral? It's a bit tricky determining scale.

Funny you should mention it, we plan to go there tomorrow! Plan is to take the train and the "rack railroad" then hike the final 20 minutes to the monastery. I thought of riding there and meeting the family, but mrs datlas did not like that idea.

I see there is an "Orbea Campus" store not far from here...must investigate.

We are super close. One half a block. The only downside to being so close is our neighborhood is packed with tourists.

I read somewhere that the Barcelonians are fighting back against tourism. I think recently, there was a big march or something blocking the Rambla.

When we were there in 2010, we were warned about going out at night because of pickpockets, purse snatchers, etc. and sure enough, a young man ripped a diamond necklace off of a lady in plain view of us.

Not too long ago, though, to crank up the '80s music.

Touring bike - kitty trailer - track bike

I like the sound of that. It would be like riding a semi. Might have to look into that.

You must have been a prodigy. Never rode a bike until 1982, and seven years later you are lapping the field.
Chapeau!

Muchos kudos!

Beer cooler wrapped in lycra shower cap helmets, who misses those things?

Went for a little walk about town. Noticed this place and thought of Seeds...

http://i1228.photobucket.com/albums/...pskrnm3zxf.jpg

You can't see really well but they have hammocks for seating.

Then found "Orbea Campus Barcelona"
http://i1228.photobucket.com/albums/...psqmarzioo.jpg

It's in the high rent district. Front of store has one of each of the current road bikes:
http://i1228.photobucket.com/albums/...psqek5ttuf.jpg

Middle has a cafe which did not appear to be open this evening...
http://i1228.photobucket.com/albums/...psurrkydvp.jpg

Back part has TT bikes, MTBs, and accessories. No pics.

Saw another impressive church on my way home.

Going to try to get to bed early tonight for an early start to Montserrat tomorrow.
