Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Similar to my elevation yesterday.

Interesting way to think about it.

It was 90º at the end of our tandem ride this morning. We averaged 18 mph so we must be adapting to the heat again which is weird since we went through two weeks of 60º stuff a month ago.

I got my crabon MTB frame for just $275

The last time that I had more than a mile of climbing in one week was in early Aug and that was during a 200+ mile week.

It's rough - I got used to morning rides in the 55-65° region, too, and going from that to riding in full sun in 85°+ takes some adjustment.

I saw the hill in St Paul during last visit.

It would take quite a few repetitions to accumulate much elevation.

I'm bad with Street names, even in my own neighborhood.

It was curvy and narrow.
There was an Ethiopian restaurant and gas station near the bottom. Does that help?

A good Campy vs Shimano thread has been known to take you all the way across the big pond and back.

Used to be at least one spontaneous departure per week.

If it was a 930 I'd be tempted. For $75 you should be able to get an 830 complete, IMO.

In the US, that's likely true. In bum**** Mexico, not necessarily.

Honest question. On my way home from Wegmans, around the corner from my house, I nearly run into a young boy of maybe 7 or 8, he is riding a bike, no helmet, on the wrong side of the road. He pulls into a driveway of a house that recently sold. Not sure, but I am guessing he lives there. Is there some way to encourage helmet use (required by law) and riding on the correct side of the road, without coming across like a sanctimonious French shower??

Last Saturday, also in the 90s, we stopped a couple times before the end due to losing our heat/humidity acclimatization. After riding all week in the heat and having a couple shorter “rest” days, we did great today. Back to the 60s by the end of next week!

Ask in A&S. I dare you.

So, helmets are required in PA? Never knew that.

Just for kids. Once you are an adult, they are optional even for motorcycles!

...there's been an unfortunate but documentable rise in the number of homeless people here riding opposite the flow of traffic in the bike lanes. I passed two of them this morning on my ride.

I presume that saying something will do little good, might even end up creating additional problems.

I just look back over my shoulder and take the lane. It's especially problematic at night, because few or none of them have lights.
