Help me pick out a new bike...
So, I want to buy a new bike, since I have always rode used bikes or cheap Walmart bikes and decided that I want to invest in something new, modern and fast.
I would want a CF frame, 11 speed with either a full or compact drive rings, probably disc brakes (but no sure), with strong wheels for my 220 pound frame (not much weight to lose, I am not a little guy) and capable of doing "A" group rides.
Budget (hopefully) under $5,000...
Current bike is a CannonDale SuperSix and I like it but it is already 3 years old and is going to need many parts replaced, so I thought I could sell it before the expensive parts wear out.
Serious question posed to you guys and hoping for serious responses. I am not too brand loyal, so please offer a suggestion and why it would be a good first new bike.
I really like the Giant TCR Advanced Pro 1 https://www.giant-bicycles.com/us/tc...ced-pro-1-2018 but thought I'd ask here since it is basically similar to my CannonDale

I would try to check out the BMC SLR01. Take a look at RA Cycles...they usually have sales. It is a beautiful all-rounder..fast, pretty comfy, stiff, and the front/rear is very balanced from a compliance standpoint. Also, not too many around. I have a 2014 and it is my go-to bike. It convinced me to sell my Roubaix and if my Tarmac wasn't a disc setup, I could see it as my only bike. I love my Tarmac but the BMC is more comfy without being too compliant. The Tarmac is phenomenal with tubeless tires but the BMC would be too and with a touch more compliance, so I will try that next season or this winter. It is also a light frame. Anyway, check them out, and if you can go see one in person, that would be helpful.

Thanks for the replies, all 3 of them....
Chandne, I will check out the BMC SLR01 as you suggest.
F4rrest and a1pengiun, my SuperSix is tired, wheels shot, cables frayed and breaking, both brakes seize off center and rub, regardless of what I take apart, clean and reassemble, the drivetrain is worn but not shot and the top tube has a concerning crack in it. The tires are worn, bars need new tape and other small stuff.
My thought was to sell it while it is still worth something, sell it and buy my first real new bike.

it's $1K more than the TCR, but dam, that massive down-tube and chain-stays really speak to a bigger rider like myself. They show the stem completely slammed and no shims at all for adjustment, do they really come that way?
The TCR looks nice too, but almost fragile in comparison. Climbers bike?

If your serious about checking out the BMC SLR01. The SLR02 is another option - I love mine. If I recall correctly there isn't much difference with the SLRO1 for similar drive trains. Slightly lighter frame, but with the higher cost (at least in model yr2015) the savings would either get some much better wheels or be used for other purposes.

I say repair the current bike AND buy a new one. You know the whole N + 1 thing.

Everything on the SuperSix can be fixed or replaced for cheap. Everything except the "concerning" crack.
I don't think I'd jump at another CF frame if my last one only lasted 3 years.

The world is your oyster, ride a few, you are an experienced cyclist.
At $4-5K the choices are huge.
I'd buy the one with Campy.

OP said he's never bought a new bike, so is the Supr6 3 years old, or has he had it 3 years + however long the previous owner rode it?
I don't think time really matters anyway, it's miles. To me, a 5 year old metal frame with 35K miles on it is an old frame. Some will call me crazy but IMHO a metal frame like that will feel soft, more like riding a wet-noodle than that snappy ride you originally built (or bought).
Can't say for CF, as I'm still on my first one, but I suspect that cracking is their normal aging process. No way in hell I would put any significant amount of money into a high mileage frame, especially not one ridden by a Super Clyde like myself. It's way beyond needing a new filter, more like the compressors shot, the condensers corroded, and a family of rodents have take n up residence inside
give that puppy a good clean, shine up the chain and wax the frame, then hang it in your office or garage as a decoration
the 01 already comes with DT swiss hubs and rims, and you get ultegra over 105.Maybe worth the extra $1300 for the 01? dam budget

I didn't check this year's offering, two years ago you could get the ultegra in SLR02.
I agree with the other poster who says at $4-5K the offerings are huge. Test ride a few, get the one that fits the best and seems relatively sturdy for a heavier rider.

but no, what he said was wouldn't hurt to post a pic of that Six though, I'm curious about the toptube crack, fatigue or some external damage? Coulda dropped a power bar on it while working on the wrapper, definitely hard enough to crack CF'r

Nice! there's gotta be a prize for coming within $1.00 dollar of the budget
oops, no wait, that's $400. tax in most places on that puppy (or do they sell them online now, AFAIK it's only thru "trek stores". anyone know?

My 2012 Synapse has 14k miles on it. It looks like new, IMHO. The cassette and chain have been replaced, new bar tape, replacement cables. Same wheels. Obviously been through several sets of tires. But I weigh less than you.
The Emonda gets rave reviews by the people on this forum. You might also consider Specialized Tarmac. I recommend some test rides! Perhaps try a bike with an endurance geometry. I don't think these bikes are all that much slower, just different geometry.

Here's what I recommend. KTM Revelator Sky Orange.
Why? This frame is phenomenal. Comes fitted with great components, too.. Nothing you 'need' to replace. Fast, light, unique. Why blend in when you can have something not only great quality, but will surely be a topic of many conversations anywhere you take it.
My second suggestion, also a beautiful and unique bike the Wilier Cento10DNR. I got a chance to test ride one of these recently and all I could say is wow. I wanted one.. Just not in the budget right now. I think if you picked up the frame kit, you could outfit it with full ultegra within your budget and it'd be the bike dreams are made of.

LOL, Gifs are awesome, easily worth a thousand words
wow, I would love to see the Engineering behind those chain-stays, holy crap ! I mean the drive side looks super fragile, like a wishbone from Chicken, but I'm sure they have tested this to no end.
Beautiful bike, feeling very nostalgic for the Richard Petty paint-job
Do they sell just the bare frame?
