Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Garmin mount that goes on side of stem?

I saw a cyclist with a Garmin GPS mounted on one side of the stem rather than on top of it, but didn't get a chance to ask him what it was.

I have a front bar bag which means the "out front" holder won't work, and I want to mount a separate speed/cadence computer on top of the stem, meaning there is currently no space for the Garmin.

Does anyone one know who makes these mounts?

Thanks!

K edge makes this.. all you need is to replace a stem spacer with it.

or the stem cap and go directly on top

This looks interesting! I've seen this mount in a different orientation, placed over the top of the stem. Can the locking mechanism be rotated 90 degrees so that the Garmin ends up positioned normally once it's attached?

Use the regular Garmin mount and flip it backwards.

No idea how the inserts can be moved around. i would guess so but you'd have to look at K edge's site and see

K-EDGE Adjustable Garmin Stem Mount:
Adjustable Garmin Stem Mount

$39.99

The K-EDGE Garmin Stem Mount is a great upgrade solution for cyclists who prefer their computer above the stem. Mounting off of the steerer tube, the mount replaces a standard 5mm spacer, and is locked securely in place by the top cap compression system.

The adjustable version allows for a variety of different stem angles. Can be used with positive or negative degree stems and additional spacers can be added (5mm to 10mm) above the stem. Note that some of the larger computers will not always work with a steep angled stem.

Designed with mountain biking in mind, the K-EDGE Stem mount is also ideal for much more including: cyclocross; triathlon; bike touring; or if you simply prefer this position for your computer.

The question here is, why do you need to wear two watches?

If that adjustable K Edge could flip closed when not in use, that would be awesome. It could look just like a regular top cap when not being used. IF they made it that way.

This. You should already have one so there is no cost.

Hmm...I'll look at this again as an option. I think I tried it once and thought it looked weird, but maybe that was before I bought the bar bag.

[Edit: I think I remember the problem. I had a 30 degree riser stem, and there was some issue with stem or knee clearance. Visibility might have been an issue too. I've now got a longer, lower stem that might be OK. I'll give it a go]

Obvious really!

Thanks.

Agreed. Confucius say "May with two watches never know what time it is."

can't you just point the garmin or other computer to the handlebar with the supplied mounts?

One is a Sigma speed and cadence computer and the other is a basic Garmin Edge 200 unit, which doesn't have any external sensors).

I understand that I could get a single unit to do all of the above, but it would cost a considerable amount, and running the two devices that I already own is the easiest option.

Possibly. I'm a big short on bar space (front bag mounting bracket, bar extender, bell), but I might be able to juggle things around to make space for the Garmin. Good suggestion!
