If I'm late for a hairdresser's appointment or have to cancel at the last minute, there is a fee. I would have thought that as one of the few specialists/specialty clinics around in your field, that would be an acceptable practice?

As my dad taught me, you're only on time if you're 10 minutes early; you're late if you're on time.
'Course he also taught me if you want to hoot with the owls, you've gotta soar with the eagles. So wth, take that for what it's worth.

Mt. Doom didn't feel as hard today. Bigger gear on the lower slopes. Out of the saddle on Angelo's Wall and the Mt. Doom Summit Approach. Those rest days are KEY. I forced myself to take one Tuesday and I do notice a difference the next day.

Motivation to keep eating light and riding. Oh yes.

Sometimes I'm fashionably late. You have to wait anyway, so . . .

15 minutes early. LOL

I rested today.

Trsnrtr 10-25-17 05:11 PM

I'm an extremely on-time person but if I had a nickel for every minute that I've waited past my appointment time with medical professionals, I'd have a tidy, tidy sum. :innocent:

Look what's in town--the NUTmobile!

Sadly, I may not get to see it.

Well, now I have an obsessive need for punctuality. It's really annoying, even to me.

If one of my fine customers are thirty minutes late, they are asked to reschedule. If they pull that three times, they’re fired. This is a free service and if they don’t place any value on my knowledge, then they can pound sand.

So you are those people.

I guess that's why it happens- you show up whenever you want, the doctor sees you whenever he/she wants, and the whole thing devolves into chaos.

I actually see my appointments on time for the most part. Sometimes I'll have some extreme crisis I have to deal with, like CPR, that might delay me getting into an exam room on time. But I do apologize to clients when that happens and give them the gist as to why I'm behind. If people wait a long time, I typically don't charge them for their appointment. I hate hate hate wasting people's time. As much as I hate them wasting mine.

So you would not fare too well in my office probably. You'd show up whenever and I'd tell you to reschedule and you'd say "wut?". 😂

You are heading to an appointment (with a doctor or veterinarian say) that is 1 hour long. Twenty five minutes after your appointment is scheduled to start, you are still in the car driving to the appointment. You've never been to that clinic before, you were told to arrive 15 min prior to your appointment time to fill out new patient paperwork, so being 25 min late is actually equivalent to being 40 min late. And you've not yet arrived, so you're actually going to be later than that.

When you are called by the clinic and told you need to reschedule your appointment, are you completely shocked or does the reschedule make sense to you?

Asking for a friend.

The average person? or the average 'merikan? Unless they had a really, really good reason that they were running late then they shouldn't be shocked. That late is equalivent to missing it altogther.

The thing is: it doesn't matter what your reason is that you were running late, you having a good reason does not create time magically.

I have more wiggle room on recheck exams, especially if I know the patient is doing well. Much easier when I already know the client and know they are capable of being aware that they are late and that creates a time constraint and they will pick up the pace on their end too.

New appointments, rechecks not doing well, really difficult/uncooperative patients- with insufficient time, it's hard to do a good job.

Which is not to say that I won't try to accommodate scenarios like a little old lady in a wheelchair who needs to get a ride and can't fully control whether she is late or not. But although I'm sympathetic to good reasons for being late, it doesn't really change the fact that the time devoted to your appointment is now gone.

It's interesting. I don't really see any doctors who do this. My internist, my ophthalmologist, my gynecologist, my dentist, my eye surgeon- they all see me close enough to my appointment time that I am not checking the time to see how late they are.

It's happened of course- saw an endocrinologist once who saw me 2 hours late. If I needed any on-going care with an endocrinologist, no way would I have gone back to that guy. I would have found someone else unless I really loved the guy.

The only person I tolerate running behind like that? My bike fitter. But I love the guy, he's one in a million.

If you're on time you're late and if you're early you're on time.

It's not without some luck. Most of my riding is in civilized regions, but even in the Knoxville metro area some of these pickup truck drivers are something else.

Its not really people being angry that is strange to me. Its the level of shock that people seem to experience when reception tells them their appointment is already half over before they arrive, so rescheduling is best. Do people actually show up for appointments when the appointment time is half over or entirely over and have that work successfully for them?

I think that I understand that **** happens and people are late to things. I just find it odd how many people seem to think that they will be late and all will just proceed as per usual. It confuses me.

I'm usually early to doctor/vet appointments, so I can't relate.
