Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Not even a half metric for me.

I got stuck behind a tour bus descending from the observatory. That sucks.

More likely, because of your 150mm stem.

Yeah, they look pretty good and although their prices are not super cheap, they have a good reputation and are several hundred less than the comparable wheels from western brands.

I am leaning towards 50mm depth, my current ones are 38 and I don't mind a little more aero. But not sure. Maybe 38F 50R? Sounds like another job for the 41!

The workswell site does show some wheels, but interestingly no price info. I sent them an email inquiring. Kinda funny they don't show the prices, but wtf do I know?

Such a beautiful ride this am, 12 miles of single track. Sweet sweet ride on a pair of trails called Grout Bay and Hanna Flats.

Honestly? 50mm isn't even that deep - I looked back at my pics with the 52mm Rails and they're not that deep. There are good aluminum rims at 33mm deep these days that aren't boat anchors, so if you're going to carbon, go full-fat and get the 50s. Otherwise you might as well get good aluminum, even though it's not as schmexy.

And the mullet option doesn't really make sense for 30-something fronts; it makes more sense with a 50+ front and an even-deeper rear if you don't want to (or can't) go all the way to a disc. So 404/808 makes sense. It makes much less to go 303/404. You're sacrificing too much depth (and therefor aero) at the front, where it really matters. If you want a mid-depth front much below 40mm, just match front-rear.

You actually use your wheels, so I wouldn't bother with Chinese rims. Buy something from here or the UK that will last like the Williams wheels. Excel has some closeouts. Fork over the money, you cheapskate.

I wouldn't go much deeper than 50mm for the front. Deeper rear is fine. My Cervelo has psimet 50/58s. That's a good option to consider. White Industries T11 hubs and they would outlast the rims.

Yeah will likely go 50/50. Might actually ask for a quote from psimet while I am at it.

Better to do a deeper rear, if it's an option.

Actually, at your weight, maybe not.

I get the allure of the Chinese carbon rims. Some of the higher end stuff, like those Workswell frames, are enticing.

I've had a carbon wheel almost fail twice - once in Sante Fe and once on Flagstaff. I'd rather not do that again. If it's the difference of $300-400, my face is worth it. I would buy a Performance discounted Reynolds wheelset or something from psimet or Fairwheel or November or Boyd.

I really wanted November 52's but they are discontinued. Not set on Chinese, will look at all options but hope to keep it roughly 1000 bucks if possible.

Mrs datlas and I just finished tag-team power washing the front stairs and entrance to our house. It's concrete and was pretty dark. Now it's light and clean now.

Oh, if $1k is in the ballpark, yeah, you could find some closeouts from Reynolds, Williams or the like. My Assaults were under $1200 from a UK seller. I'd look at Fulcrum Quattro Carbons, too.

No real breach of etiquette, per se, but you will find most of the folks in this thread do appreciate the "right" stuff. I find it bothersome when folks call out others for their choice in stuff, especially when that stuff is ridden pretty hard and performs as designed.
