Ladies and gentlemen, if you observe a clattering noise coming from the bottom bracket that sounds like bad bearings, before investing in new bearings/cups and tearing the old assembly one apart to replace it, check that the chain catcher hasn't shifted so that it is fouling on the back of the chain ring bolts.
