Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Thank you for the reminder to raid the boy's candy stash while he's still out with mom.

Yeah, that makes sense. I'm happy to report that the Yucatan peninsula is white, on that map. And Greenwich too. Whew!

Yes. I, on the other hand, am ~45 minutes off. And large swathes are off by more. You can also see that "the sun sets early in the mountains" is about more than the mountains themselves.

Thankfully, our weather down here isn't that bad even in the winter so by the time change happens in March it is outdoor riding season again. It is going to be in the upper 70's until Wednesday so I will be riding in summer attire this weekend.
I try not to miss more tha two days in a row, also.

Btw, it was 50° today so no balaclava was required, nor gloves or ear coverings. I did opt for light tights instead of 3/4 tights.

Technically speaking, I never miss two days in a row either, but much of that is the 3 km roundtrip into town almost daily, on my mtb. And helmetless. I rue the day helmets came on the scene. I never ride the road bike without one, but it sure is a liberating feeling to ride without a helmet!

I had quite the Little Debbie habit at one time. The Swiss rolls were my fave.

Also, haven't sharpened a knife in a decade.

I think our electric can opener has a spinning "sharpening" stone, which makes a horrible noise when you pull a blade through.

It also probably sloughs off a huge amount of steel and doesn't leave a great edge. And that noise alone would be a dealbreaker.

I use a grinder wheel to sharpen the mower blade, then use the wire wheel on the other side to clean it up.

Now that, that is a suitable use for a brute-force sharpener.
