Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

With the temps dropping and it being dark very quickly I broke out the Traxxas Slash to access for what kind of repair it needs to get it going again. I was pretty drunk the last time I worked on it and was left over with a decent amount of parts in my frustration.

Went ahead and ordered a metal spur gear for it and downsized the tires on it. Less strain on the drive train, maybe the metal spur will hold up to the big Castle in there. You can have cheaper-ish hobbies to suck at, that's the one I'm trying to do here.

Ha! Hey Allen (iirc). Did you track the link back here? I swear I've been planning on finally finishing up my bench and making my way back over the LJs, once my outdoor cycling season is put on hold.

I think she's a bit heavy handed in the make up department, but that's just personal opinion.

Very good. I need more of her stuff. She just put out an album with this Kurt Vile guy that she's playing with tonight. Haven't listened to it yet. Saving it for a surprise, I guess?

So hey, I know we have one or two people here involved in small cycling clubs. Does anyone have any recommendations for custom jerseys in small quantities? Just trying to get ahead of the game for the MS150 because if I don't look into it, we'll end up with some awful dri-fit shirts with an awful logo and no pockets.

We use Voler but I don't know how they are with small quantities.

I just ordered some that are a great deal. $40 each if you go over some small minimum, I think 5 or 6 jerseys.

We'll get ours in about a month, will have an idea about quality then.

My health club used JakRoo; not sure what kind of deal they swung but it's good stuff.

Come down for an afternoon some weekend that AG is out and I'll cook lunch and dinner. Seriously. Though I mostly don't do fancy knifework - the cutting is a means to an end, and the end is a delicious and nourishing dish. And my plating style could generously be called "rustic". It will fill you up though, and taste good, and make you feel amazing.

It's more like "I have to cook for real in order to be healthy, so I have to cut up a lot of ingredients, so I want nice knives so that the prep work isn't miserable. Past that it's all just enjoyment, like a very fancy bicycle for most of us. Just to enjoy something very well-made and beautiful.

As cool as that is, @WhyFi, see how it has one primary bevel and then looks flat? Can't be certain without trying it, but I wouldn't put money on it doing well for actual use. Which probably isn't the point.

Often that's the case - cheap knives are typically stamped out of a fairly thin sheet of metal. It's much cheaper than starting with a thicker blade and then grinding off a lot of material to arrive at a fancy geometry.

Our team is using Peaks Design. We don't have any in-hand yet, so I can't speak to quality, but a big driver in the decision is the ability to order individually, in quantities of 1. No more team or club manager trying to pin people down, collect money, place an order, and distribute. A week from Sunday we're having a meeting where we'll try out the fit kit, then we're all on our own to just buy what we want.
