Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Prolly too cold for the Crisco, anyway. The consolation is that a sweaty face is likely to stick to a cold post instantly.

The temp in Mpls is -2. Crisco there would be frozen solid. But back in Philly it is another matter.

Okay, a lil help to confirm I'm reading this right:

I currently have: RS685 levers, FD-5800.
If I wanted to run an FC-R8000 crankset, I would need a new FD-R8000 but the levers would be fine?

They're apparently switching to hydraulic fluid.

That's how I see it too, but I'd still try it with your existing set up first.

Wait a second... I just saw that "FD-5801" sitting there with the FC-R8000 and, having noticed that my FD looks a little funky, I did a search - that's totally what I've got on the new bike, so I should be able to swap out the crankset without any additional changes, yeah?

After all, 6600 brakes were going to make you crash and die if you used them with 6700 levers.

Well it's a good thing that Shimano uses mineral oil instead of hydraulic fluid or the ensuing shortage might hit me hard.

Ha. Brake pull ratio didn't worry me too much (the Xenith has 5700 levers with 5600 brakes), but when they say that they've changed the spacing between chainrings on the new crank... well, I ain't looking to go backwards in terms of front shifting.

You don't need to change your FD and your levers will also work fine.

We went MTBing this morning. Trailhead was PACKED, trails weren't overcrowded, though. I rode my SS. Only reached for the shifter once.

In Mpls, they could have just sprayed a bit of water on the poles, which would immediately turn to ice. End of problem right there.

On the TV, I am already seeing fans in Philly climbing the light poles.
