Take the bad with the good. My oldest granddaughter (11) who is really very bright (Duh!), was struggling in school, especially math. I mean at three she was giving us driving directions to restaurants she had been to one time. Crazy stuff like that. The testing was completely confirmatory, ADHD. Not sure which drug she is on, but suddenly she is the star of the class, math included. Only problem is she is thin as a rail and can't gain any weight. She doesn't take the medicine on the weekends, but it is only a small improvement appetite-wise. Maybe she will grow out of this. In the meantime it is a huge help.

I've talked with a number of younger and older people about this and they always seem surprised it would be true and act as if it never occurred to them. I say "Picture freshman year at college but none of you can get pregnant." Ahhh. The lightbulb goes on. The problem is the STDs you can get now aren't like the ones some of these older folks are used to. Just like the drugs, STDs got a lot stronger in the last 50 years and you can't just get a shot or two of penicillin and forget about it.

Places like the Villages in Florida have "Village Squares" where the alcohol flows like water every night. Combine that with a lot widows, widowers, and swingers and it's no wonder that there is a lot of hanky panky going on.

55-plussers in a lot of these communities are way more active and young acting than bingo players. I saw enormous groups of cyclists in the Villages and they looked pretty darn fit.

I've heard way too much about the villages from my old man. It's where he wanted to retire. My mother doesn't want to leave Connecticut. I don't think he's leaving anytime soon.
