Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

No flybys on today's commute, but I did ride the elevator with a co-worker who always smells great.

I would flip it to “proven”.

1) I like BSC BBS.
2) Especially since my Quarq is native to that.
3) It’ll be a lot comfier on chipseal than my S1.
4) Especially since it clears 28s instead of 23s.
5) Within the realm of road bikes, I no longer care how fast or aero my roadie is since I won’t be racing it.
6) At $500 (less actually) it’s a bunch cheaper than the Lynskey I had been drooling over.
7) That leaves the tri bike budget wide open.
8) This article was inspiring: https://www.slowtwitch.com/Tech/The_...bate_6881.html

So as much as I do like AG’s R3, this checks a lot of the boxes for a whole lot less. My concern was whether there’s a quality reason it’s cheaper than other steel options, but it’s double-butted and I’ve seen a bunch of happy reports and none bad. If I don’t find any reason not to I’ll try to get it built up for Livestrong, which falls exactly on my birthday this year and would be a great time to have a comfier roadie available.

Is Bike Forums social media? I suppose it is, but 20th century style.

I got frisky and added 10 mi of tempo to my a.m. commute, so I had some concerns about the olfactory experience of my fellow elevator passengers. I was too fresh to stink outright, but there is that sort-of wet dog effect that a sweat-drenched person has.

Heh. I stayed as far away as possible from the two other people on the elevator. The dew point when I left the house was 73. I was pretty sweaty when I arrived.

This thread especially is FB for the old fogeys. I edge into that category, since I got used to forums before FB was a thing and still prefer them.

Agree.

There used to be something called usenet BITD that was an online forum with any/all types of topics. I imagine it has died but have not looked in a couple decades.

My real name is all over it, especially in rec.bikes.blah.blah. Glad it isn't readily searchable anymore!

I found the perfect little interval loop this morning. About 7 miles with a nice little 1 mile climb to keep things interesting, has a couple stoplights but you can usually catch green on both. I get suckered into just riding around and not pushing myself too often, especially this year now that I've had less time to do fast group rides and haven't raced at all. Will be nice to use the loop as a little test for myself each week to see if I'm gaining fitness.

But is it a Strava segment?? If not, I hope you know what to do next...

Of course it is. Sadly, I'm only 13th. I bring shame to my family.

I spent the last two hours learning my way around my wife's windows 10, and then figuring out how to attach scans to an email. I'll just stick with the chromebook for the duration

Still there, but it costs now. At least the one I saw. R*ddit is still free though.

I should look for some type of climb within riding distance, and where traffic isn't an issue. Good chance it doesn't exist, beyond the occasional overpass.
