Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My wheelset arrived today, and everything is in perfect condition. Schwalbe 30mm G-One speed tires mounted up without tools, and the beads popped on at 38psi with a regular floor pump.

Photos will follow this evening.

My build came with a readout of the detailed build spec, and a replacement spoke/nipple of each spoke size. Also instructions in the event of a spoke failure (or more than one).

Nice. I've never gotten a damn thing to mount with just the floor pump.

Great... Now I'm seriously considering buying a wheelset. Any compatibility or just general thoughts with the following buildup on a 2019 emonda ALR disc frameset?

WRU55C02
RIM: glossy, 12K
HUB: Novatec D411SB / D412SB(Disc Only), 12 / 100mm, 12 / 142mm, Shimano Road 11S, straight pull, Center lock, Black, 24H, 27T
SPOKES: Sapim CX Ray
NIPPLES: Aluminium Red
ACCESSORIES: Red, Add Valve Stem, Add Tubeless Tape
USD 629.40

I am considering this vs a set of Aeolus pro TLR 5 disc.

Hey, just found this thread, for those who are not aware and might be searching for more opinions, there's another thread going on WW about these wheels:

https://weightweenies.starbike.com/f...c.php?t=153597

I've got mine and posted a first review on page 3, then added more to the thread later.
But for short, so far so perfect, highly recommended, if your bike can take 30mm wide rims.
Great price point for a top quality product. 1800km on them so far, hit a few big potholes, still like new.

I would consider upgrading the hubs to DT350.

Has your wheelset arrived at the US destination yet?

Actually it was all rather fast. Ordered 11th Marfch, shipped 24th March, and reached Philly on 31st March.

Delivery was attempted on 1st April, but my daughter was away from home, probably faffing around doing something stupid like attending college. So, It's waiting to be picked up. My Wife is landing there today. Her job now.

On another note, my bike got delivered to my rental host in France,. and I get there on 18th.

Is your wife delivering/sending the wheelset to France?

I was considering that, but I did like the low weight and cost of the novetecs, is it really much of a difference?

Only my personal experience, but my Novatec hubs crapped out after about 350 miles. LB is swapping them right now for DT350 hubs. I have a set of Novatec brand wheels (Jetflys) that have been great, so I figured these would be good. Could be a one off, but after doing more research, the DT hubs seem to be pretty bulletproof for most people, and since the extra weight is at the hub, it shouldn't affect the wheel's performance. When I get my wheels back, I'll post up my riding experience with the DT hubs.

No, she comes back to India on 8th, and we both leave for France on 18th. We will take her bike from here, and I will ride the new bike. Most likely I won't take the new wheels. Too much of a hassle. Will ride the new bike with the stock wheels.

We are going to the area just north of Nice. Been there before. Nice riding, and hopefully weather should be starting to warm up by mid April.

I've used Novatec hubs on several wheelsets, and never had a problem other than bearing wear, but I live in AZ. People that live in areas that actually get rain, sometimes tell a different story. DT hubs are well known for being high quality, and reasonably light weight.

What model and size tires do you plan on using? If you are thinking about 28mm tires, you might look at the RR56CO2 hoops. They are much wider than the RRU55CO2, and also lighter.

DT350 hub and RR56CO2 hoops weigh 1557g(estimated) $719

Novatec 411/412 hub and RRU55CO2 hoops weigh 1544g(estimated) $629

The weight difference is insignificant, but you'll have a much wider wheel, with better hubs

I was likely going to use 25c tubeless conties, I was considering the RRU55CO2 over the RR56CO2 because the U shape design appears to better suit crosswinds. I'm a smaller guy, around 63kg, so this is a bit of a concern for me.

I wouldn't be too concerned about the shape difference between these two hoops. The v shape used for the 56mm hoop is very different than the old v shape that came to a sharp point. These are a far better shape, and quite similar to the shape used by Enve.

If I was concerned about wind issues, I would look at the RR46CO2 hoops. They should work well with a 25mm or 28 mm tire.

Rides4Beer has that setup.
