Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Very nice.

Speaking of panoramas. Who wants to go fatbiking on Mars?

Several years ago a cyclists knocked down a pedestrian crossing an intersection legally on his way to catch a train home from work. The pedestrian fell, hit his head, fell into a coma and later died. He was a paralegal at a law firm, Family man with a couple of kids. The cyclist got up, straightened his handlebars and rode off. He's never been identified.

I'm really sick of it.

So my office is having a "secret santa" thing where we are each supposed to buy a small gift daily the week of 12/17-12/21 for one of the staff members. I agreed to participate in the holiday spirit, but I have no idea what to buy her. I am guessing little bike goodies are not going to be appreciated.

Gift card for internet retailer of choice. Impersonal, but safe.

I believe this is supposed to be a low-price gift daily for a week. I would ordinarily just get chocolates or other yummy edibles, but the person is a bit heavy so I don't know if that's wise. I will figure something out.

Maybe. I just asked a colleague for advice and she said to get inexpensive "stocking stuffers," I have a lot to learn!

This happened Friday night about 4 blocks from my house:

My
first thought was that the victim must have a been a trusting elderly person, but I see she had her iPhone and laptop stolen. Or is that ageist?

I have a lot of trouble with stocking stuffers, but the women seem to find them effortlessly and don't worry as much about hitting the bullseye.

Read some of the offensive stuff being posted over in the 50-Plus forum by a newish member who believes he is the only one to know anything... and addresses people in very nasty way. Little wonder the number of participants in BF has declined to where it's at now.

PS: Thanks LAJ for action on one thread.

So...A few days after Thanksgiving I ordered some bib tights from REI. Was told they were backordered and would be available in mid-December. A few days ago I got a ship notice from REI. Great, I thought. They came in early. Package delivered today. Inside the package was a pair of women's 3/4 tights with pad in size small. Seems my shipping label got put on someone else's package. Not sure how/why that happened since my item is still backordered. REI told me to keep the item. Maybe my ex would like them. If not, I will donate them.

There seems to be an ever-higher level of snark/nastiness out there.

I know who to blame, but I can't say his name or I will get demerits for posting P&R content. Sad!

Ahhh Mexico. At 8 AM it couldn't be done today, even though it was the second appointment(the first failed also). So I said I'd leave the car overnight, and get it tomorrow. I drove home 3 1/2 hours later. No worries if I am inconvenienced, but notice is taken if they are.
