Pulling the trigger on wheels, Reynolds AR vs ARx

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Hello all, minor apologies for reviving this thread. I'm looking at some Reynolds wheels, and the comments here are super helpful. I was just curious looking at the offerings - every wheel size is the same price? I was thinking of about 40mm depth, but if the 58s are the same price, any reason not to go for those? I know they weigh a little more, but seem to do ok in crosswind?

I ride a mix of everything: hills/mountains some days, cruising farmland roads others. What else should I be considering?

How did you like them?

Thanks all!

after about a month of having them, I can confidently say that it was a great purchase for me. Took it climbing, rolling hills, flats and only had minor crosswind effect going over the Golden Gate Bridge (flat). My biggest concern was descending in a crosswind going 45mph+, and I saw nothing to worry about. I feel fast on the flats and even less effort in a head wind. IMHO, the 58/62 are perfect, only reason to go 40s is to save weight.

It's hard to tell what you'd be comfortable with handling in the winds until you try. I run Jet 6+s in all conditions, and a few times a year they seem lively but I've gotten a lot better with them. The differences will be minor either way, both in aero and wind.

The AR58x does better in crosswinds than my first set of carbon wheels, which were 50mm Superteam wheels. I actually bought a set of FFWD F4R wheels which are 45mm offset, about 3 months after I bought the AR58x's (I am a wheel nut). The AR58 and the F4R do really well, and very similarly to each other in crosswinds.

Those do look pretty sweet!

Not to confuse matters more, but are the Blacklabel aero wheels worth the extra money? It looks like they have better hubs and a more v shape profile. Are they significantly more aero?

Thanks everyone!

my brother in law got the black label, he loves them as well. IMO, if you have the funds for it then yes. ( I smoked him in a sprint though&#128540

So I'm trying to decide between Reynolds AR58/62 X DB and the AR58/62. I can get the AR58/62 wheelset for $1171US and the Reynolds AR58/62 X DB for $1361US. Is it worth spending the extra cash?

Even thinking about choosing 58mm 28mm wide Farsports wheelset with either 240EXP ($1089) or Carbon-Ti hubs ($1219) Does anyone have any experience with Farsports?
