Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Had the police come out to talk with him. In front of the police officer, he referred to me as "these bike Nazis [WWII antagonists]" and said, "yeah, I passed him at 2 feet." Police officer's response was, "nope, I can't even take his name."

Too bad you couldn’t punch those stupid Elton John glasses off his face.

That sucks, but at least you won the censor battle.

Hot ride. Start temp was fine but by the end it was 87 and humid. Got some muscle cramps towards the end. Some of my club mates are still out riding and it’s 90 now. Hot.

Since my crash 1 month ago, I have been taking Ibuprofen 800mg 2-3x/day. That’s prescription strength. I had sudden onset pretty bad upper abdominal pain last night that is persistent. I gave myself a diagnosis of NDAID-induced gastritis and/or ulcer. Of course I stopped the Ibuprofen and started some acid blockers and am on a bland diet. Of course I still went for a ride. My wife thinks I am a fool. She may be right.

Hey @WhyFi, doesn’t MN have a 3 or 4 foot passing law? Even PA does.

Does the bland diet actually do any good? I recall hearing stories from years ago about people with ulcers who went on bland diets, and I always wondered why it was that they told them to do this.

It may help a little. Main thing is stop the Ibuprofen. Actually, many ulcers are caused by a bacteria called Helicobacter Pylori. So the treatment involves antibiotics. But I am pretty sure mine is from the NSAIDS. If it is not improving of course I will see my GI doc for possible endoscopy.

These days I’m pleased when anyone uses the term in that sweet, old fashioned, negative way.

Decided on a shortish, hard, ride today in order to beat the heat. Pushed all the hills and went through a bottle of Gatorade and one of plain out there. I was back before it hit 82°.

Why not ride?

Ibuprofen sucks pretty bad for the blood vessels too. Sorry you are in that much pain from the crash!

Yup, 3 feet, which is why I was surprised when the cop didn't bat an eye when the French shower told him that he passed me at 2 feet. Like, didn't even reiterate to the driver what the law was or emphasize safe driving. Nothing.

Sad. You may want to give feedback to the guy’s company/employer. Unless of course if it’s his company.

Shoulder pain is mostly gone. Now it’s my epigastrium that hurts the most!

Why not ride? Mrs datlas thinks I should stay home and rest instead. She is not a cyclist, obv.

Maybe I should take a cue from Jackie.

I saw it censored, as a prefix, in another forum. Perhaps the censor is forumcentric.

And now, as @DougRNS would say, it's nap time.

It has been nap time all day for me. I have days like this sometimes, but I didn't get enough sleep last night. One of our cats wanted breakfast at 5AM - that's how my day started..

Van wasn't marked, but I've been mulling over a talk with the owner of the house where he was doing work. It's literally two blocks from my place.

Tough call. I usually suggest take the high road. But if you go and slash his tires, I won’t rat you out.

Have you tried an H2 blocker and a few shots of MgOH/AlOH/simethicone?

We have some omeprazole lying around that was my MiL’s, so I took it and a big swig of Maalox and 4 TUMS. It’s not better yet but not worse. If pain gets severe I will go to the ED.
