The past two times I rode the new bike I had good results. I've ridden this same section of the trail more than 100 times over the past few years. Today I averaged .4 mph higher than I ever have at the same effort level as measured by heart rate. 75% is 137 bpm for me. I am baffled because it isn't me. I guess the new bike has me in a more aero position despite my dislike of the compact bars. Also the 52 chain ring vs the 50 on the old bike helps my top end. Whatever the reason I am excited and like the bike.

Despite the new bike I can't average 30 mph for 1 mile.

Kudos.
Our rides are not really races but we sometimes get competitve on long climbs. On yesterday's ride we had a really long, tough climb early on. I know the climb well and paced myself and did not worry that the rabbits were out in front. Toward the end I put on the afterburners and cruised past the guys who went hard too early. That didn't suck.

Had a fun group ride last night, but was hit with the realization that my Wed night group rides are almost done for the year. Bummer as I feel like I'm finally rounding in to decent shape. Last night, I was feeling particularly cheeky and decided to ride off the front a mile out from a hotly contested city sign. Covered the mile in under 2 min, which is probably my fastest flat mile, but was still picked off by a guy who had a great leadout. One of these days I'll hold 'em off.
"Rounding in to decent shape" seems to be a northern biker thing. We tend to spend 8 months getting into shape only to loose it in 4 months, rinse and repeat. I did some limited interval training on an indoor bike last year that kept some of the edge, but there is nothing like actually seat time.

After beautiful days and pleasantly cool nights, most of the week it's supposed to get hot this weekend. 90 by Sunday. AccuWeather is forecasting an unseasonably warm October. Hoping to get in a couple of long weekend tours if that comes true. Maybe as soon as next weekend.

I wonder if Velo Vol still follows us. If so, check this out:

I am trying to paste the actual picture from the link but not working. That's Hannah on the right. Her Marching Band won some important trophy.
See below for picture.

The amount of time and commitment that even non-award winning marching bands put in is astonishing based upon my son's involvement last year. Multiple weeks of 20-40 hours of practicing during the summer and then after school. I suspect your (assumed) daughter's was even greater.

Here a bit east and a bit south of you, my solo week day rides are almost done for the year too. It's beat the clock to get a ride in before full darkness. Don't mind, actually prefer riding at twilight, but not a fan of riding at full darkness.
