Can one use this groupset with non-hydraulic rim brakes (ie. are the brake lever components compatible with a mechanical brake line)?

They have a version with rim brakes and a version for hydraulic brakes - both Force and Red.

If I were to source the parts separately (eg. derailleurs, shift/brake levers, cassette/chainset), would I have any issues pairing up the parts wirelessly if they didn't all come out of the same box?

The parts don't need to come from a single set. They pair like Bluetooth.

BTW, I have Red eTap with mechanical brakes.

Can someone give me an overview of the eTAP series? From what I have gathered there are 2 generations and components are not inter-compatible because of the move from 11 to 12s and addition of AXS. What cranksets and cassettes are compatible with each generation of eTAP? All the promotional videos from SRAM seem to say that nothing other than their overpriced RED/Force crank/cass will work. Thanks for the replies so far!

I will be keeping the same brake system on my bike so all I really need is front/rear eTAP derailleurs and compatible crankset/cassette. Can I just buy some eTAP blips and stick them on my existing bars and avoid spending money on eTAP shifters?

Blips require a blip box to operate, so you’d need the blip switches, the blip box (controller), wires to connect the switches to the box which are sold in different lengths, front and rear derailleurs. Crank, cassette, and chain for the proper gears.

I guess you’d have to remove the shift cables from your brifters but the brakes would work fine.

I have Red eTap, don’t know the gen, but all of the parts came in separate boxes, ala cart.

Red eTap is the 1st generation and is 11 speed.

Axis eTap cones in Red and Force versions, is the 2nd generation and is 12 speed.

You can not interchange parts between 1st and 2nd generation.

I had Red 22 mechanical originally and upgraded to a Red eTap mini-group with was both derailleurs and shifter only. I kept my original mechanical crank, chainrings and cassette. My brakes are Bontrager dual pivot mechanical.

Resurrecting with another questions after further research. Out of SRAM's new 12-speed line, I am liking the 10-50T Eagle (XG-12xx) series. If I were to choose one of the Eagle cassettes, would I need to get specific Eagle derailleur? What options would I have then if I wanted the Eagle cassette with eTAP for a road bike with drop bars?

Also, what can you tell me about free hub compatibility for SRAM cassettes? Will the 12-speed lineup fit on XD or XD-R? What is the real difference between the two? Can I just fit them onto Shimano hubs?

I "think" the Axis RD only fits to a 36.If you go larger then you need s Eagle RD.

You can pair an Eagle AXS RD with eTap AXS shifters for a 1x set up. This requires the use of the Eagle 12-speed chain, not the road “flat top” 12-speed chain, and an XD freehub for the SRAM 12-speed cassette. Not sure, but maybe you could run the Eagle RD and chain with a Shimano 12 speed cassette, but this would require their new Microspline freehub. Sunrace makes a 11-50 cassette that can be used on the old 11-speed freehub.

You cannot run an Eagle AXS RD and eTap AXS FD together, to the best of my knowledge.

SRAM just released a “wide” Force AXS gruppo that will let you run a 10-36 cassette in the back with a 43/30 crankset up front for a pretty big gear spread.

I'm looking at the XX1 Eagle DUB SL crankset, is it compatible with road frames? On SRAM website it lists the BB compatibility as: DUB:BSA73, PF89.5, PF92, PF30 MTB73, BB30 MTB73, BSA MTB68SP. My frame is PF30 x 68mm wide, will I run into any issues fitting the XX1 with their DUB PF30 BB?

Why do you want MTB gearing on a road bike?

Okay last question I think. I went with red derailleurs/shifters and force crank/cassette/chain. Do I need to get a blipbox in order to use blips or can I plug them directly into my shifters?
