Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Maybe they are “brand new” used bikes.

Every time I've looked at listings on the Pros Closet, the prices seem rather high compared to new pricing. Am I wrong?

For example, a 2021 Emonda SL6 retails for $3,300. Since stock is going up at the stores (at least around here to some degree) I would imagine you could shave that a bit. Pros Closet advertises a 2018 model for $2,800 and a 2016 model will set you back $2,650. I can't imagine anyone wanting to save a measly $500 and getting a 3 year old bike.

Don't get me wrong - $500 is nice to have in your pocket, but I would think anyone spending that kind of money would find a way to get the newest and greatest when the delta is that small.

One of the lady’s I ride with bought a beautiful specialized roubiax from the closet and she got it for 980.00. I’m not sure how she pulled that off because I have never seen anything close before or since.

No, I agree with you. The prices are high for used bikes but they claim to stand behind them.
I wonder if they are negotiable.

The Lynskeys, 16 bikes equipped exactly the same. A liquidation thing. Now, the 3T bikes are not up anymore. Someone posted them early, I suspect.

I've wondered that as well. I considered buying a bike through them when I was in the market for the Domane, but got put off by some customer reviews.

Put me in the camp of preferring to buy new and be able to touch and feel.

If I had to venture a guess, they can’t sell them as “new” since they aren’t a certified retailer of that brand.

I think it would just depend on what it was for me. A used moots I would consider becuase I doubt I’ll ever be able to budget at 8000 dollar bike.

The "new" stuff they have listed seems to be odd sizes. I wonder if they bought up some overstock.

Of course, but the attraction of buying used is directly related to the discount compared to new. If you had the means to spend $7200 on a used Moots, would you try to reach for the new for only $800 more? I would.

Where would a 20 mile course be hard to put together? You do 10 miles and then turn around. Or do 20 miles at the office park and stop.

I propose the traditional 40km. That way some of the fast people will have a target

My wife wanted to ride her single bike today but I made her ride our tandem so she couldn't drop me. I'm serious.

Weight Weenie freewheel for £25. Tempting even with the mangled tool notches. Lighter than 11sp DA, 5 fewer cogs though
