Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Turns out that we DO have a printout from the second visit to the Smog Station. NOT from the Toyota dealer.

Under 'Readiness Status', everything is either "Completed" or "Not Supported" except "Catalyst", which says "NotCompleted"

So, Misfire, Fuel System, Comprehensive, Evaporative System Oxygen Sensor, and Oxygen Sensor Heater are all Completed. Others are 'Not Supported'.

Is that enough for the BAR Referee to say, "You're good"?

Nope. Traffic in the right lanes was going 60-65 on the way home. I had a window of opportunity this morning. I got it up to 70, but I just didn't have it in me to jam the gas pedal down any further. Maybe next time.

I-75 is not on my radar. I'm an outside the perimeter guy. We will be leaving shortly and I'm told we will be dining near RR tracks. Pics to follow unless I forget.

2.5 hours of weed pulling and mulch disbursing has me feeling less than stellar.

Heh, my car goes to 70 practically by itself.

When I first got the Dodge, it took concentration to stay below 90 on the freeway. It's much faster at the same 'feeling' than the Subaru Outback it replaced.

My wife and I knocked out a metric but it was all her back could take so our 70 will have to be put off for another day.

Crazy how some cars are like that. My wife’s Macan feels like you’re going 60 when at 100. The Taycan is the same way, and the speed really creeps up on you. My 911 and Cayman took a lot more effort to drive fast. Go figure. May have to do with suspension taughtness.

Not far at all. I drive by the entrance ramp every day on I 94 to and from work and frequently drive on it for work.

Nice 70 miler in the rain for the first 50. 2600 ft climbing. Yep climbing still sucks. I popped on the 3rd to last hill and just couldn't get back on. Got to within 100 ft of the group twice but just couldn't close. I'll be better next week.

Did the rear brakes on the Avalanche yesterday. The disk on the pas. Side was missing metal on the inner disk. Looked like it was flaking off. That explains the thump,thump,thump,thump,thump..
Also swapped out o2 sensors #1 on both banks. New m.a.f. and m.a.p. runs real nice. But still shows (now) 51.5% ethanol. Left are -14. -1-1ish . Will this reset itself after while or do I need to reset it with a scanner?

The parts you installed still didn't fix the underlying problem. Unless you're putting gas in with an ethanol content of 51%, it's lying.

In Tier 2 vehicles, it was mandated that monitors become easier to run to a ready status. Unfortunately, your Toyota is not Tier 2, so... Of course, all I know it it's about a 20 year old Sienna, so I'm going to assume it's a 2002. Had you taken it to an independent, that had an idea, they likely can give you a hand. (Sorry John) When I talk to dealer tech, all I get is attitude, and all I get is "it doesn't smoke, and there are no codes set". Many of them have no clue what a readiness monitor is, even though the SAE J 1979 Standard has been around in some form, since 1994. Toyota is hit or miss on Mode $06, but I would have looked at that as well.

So. Get on the highway, maintain 60 mph as steady as possible for 6 miles. When you approach 5.5-6 miles, start looking for an exit. Get off the highway, and when you hit the slow down lane for the exit, take your foot off the gas, and let the vehicle coast up or down the exit for as long as possible. Eventually you'll have to hit the brakes, and do so when necessary. Wait at the stop light or sign as normal, because you're going to get back on the highway going back the way you came. Repeat that same process going back, get off the exit you started this on, including the steady speed and coast down on the exit ramp.

Getting off the highway is imperative, because dividing this into a couple separate drives, is important. Out and back. Once a monitor is set to ready, it stays ready ready, until a power loss event to the PCM, or a code clear.
This morning I found a post specific to Toyotas of that era, which said you might have to repeat this 5 times. I guess it's worth it, to avoid buying 3 new cats. But...yikes.

I could walk to I-75. There's no point in doing so, though, as I'm not hitch hiking anywhere.

In my experience it is if the dealer provides a repair order stating the drive cycle was performed and there are no bulletins or program updates to deal with the problem.
I think they like it if the dealer opens a technical assistance case with the factory.
