Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Good catch, autocorrect obviously only works from an English db.

The real point is that I’ve not been to the gym since the omicron invasion began several months ago.

Yeah, you’ll have to make me a trust beneficiary so I can afford her. I’ll keep her ship-shape though.

Remember the good old days when they showed each judge's score?

Everyone boo/whistle at the East German judge!

one that's been screwed over by the seller. Ebay says you gave to attempt to work things out before they will get involved. If the Seller won't communicate, it makes working it out frustrating.

Question, lately I have noticed that when I am getting out of the saddle it seems that my legs “burn” or fatigue quicker than when in the saddle. I’ll be cruising along in the saddle fine start and incline get out of the saddle and the effort actually feels harder on the legs than if I just stayed in the saddle. Heart rate is usually above zone 3 at this moment. The burning is in the hamstrings. Is there some exercise I can do to strengthen my hamstrings?

Another example, when we were doing hill work yesterday I was out of saddle and sprang up the hill but near the top I didn’t have anything left and standing felt harder than just sitting back down. Up to this point I didn’t get out of the saddle much.

What’s the power look like when you’re fatiguing and for how long have you been riding when it happens?

I decided to try a ride last night because the roads were only “wet.” Goal was to do 20-25 and head home. Wife called and wanted me to meet her at our friends house, so I changed the ride up a little to end there.

About 10 miles in, Mother Nature decided I didn’t need to stay dry. I got soaked to the bone and everything is filthy now. Was overdressed for 38 degrees with thermal tights, jacket and base layer. Wish I’d just have done a vest, thermal and jersey.

have the afternoon off today and hope to get some miles in, but as of right now, there’s no bus for the kids this afternoon meaning I’d have to get them at school at 3- right smack in what would be the middle of a longish ride.

Prolly about an hour in, nothing significant. Hard up the hill watts peaked at 905 but the other times I wasn’t really pushing hard so prolly 300-400.

I did an Ophthalmology rotation through Wills Eye (mandatory for all Jefferson students), so I like to think I can do the basics ok. I can even do a funduscopic exam! Will let you know what we see, so to speak.
