Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

With two kids and a spouse in the house, I love morning quiet time when I can get it.

Fun kidney stone story

I had one in 2014, it was pretty nasty with several days of pain. One morning I had a wave of pain come over me and I was bent over the kitchen counter. My ex-wife said “my day would go a lot better if you’d get the **** out of my way”

she was a real peach

Seems like ultimately she got the **** out of your way and made your whole life better!

I had a stone when our daughter was a year old. Told my wife to take me to the hospital since I knew what was coming so we loaded the kid into the Jeep and went. The main road was under construction and was really bumpy. When I got out of the car I told the wife that I suddenly felt better, but she wanted me to get checked out. I walked in carrying the kid and everyone wanted to know what was wrong with the baby. Nobody wanted to believe that I was the one with the problem. Had to go through all the child abuse questioning even though we went to get me checked out, and there was not a thing wrong with our daughter.

Well, if it is about money that would just be silly. I'm thinking more of an ego thing, or the classic unable to leave the excitement and adoration of being a monster sports star.
He and his wife are reportedly worth over $650 million and he certainly has unlimited earning potential as a spokesman or any number of things without the travel and risk of getting beaten up as an NFL player.

I watched the documentary “The Game Changers” last night. I’m now incredibly interested in going to a predominantly plant based diet.

It may be pseudoscience but interesting none-the-less

I have NOT seen this but have heard about it. I have mixed feelings. I have been a vegetarian for 36 years. BUT my understanding is the "science" behind this documentary is more anecdotal and handwaving than real quality data.

The best good data do support some version or variation of the Mediterranean diet, fwiw.

Any of the docs here have any ideas? Just want some idea of what to expect I guess.

Heres the weird part. Last week my buddy that I cycle with, his wife was admitted to the hospital for something very similar. Pain was in the same general area, doctors couldn’t find anything but kept her in the hospital overnight. She went home the next day but then her heart rate increased and her legs and arms started to go numb. Went back to the hospital and was then diagnosed with a UTI.

Personally I have never had a UTI but I can’t imagine it feels like this.

Doesn't work like that for me. It's generally a couple hours to a day or two of varying between discomfort and agony. Also, the problem for me has mostly not been in the urethra. It's the ureters.

The ureters (garden hose) are much more narrow than the urethra (fire hose), and are typically where the stones get stuck. That's why you have pain on one side or the other. Stones very rarely get stuck in the urethra.

First time I had one, I woke in the middle of the night feeling the back pain and feeling like I had to pee but couldn't. It very quickly progressed to nausea and throwing up blood. That's when I had a friend take me to the ER. Ended up on morphine and IV fluids for some time till it passed.

Is there a term for a BF user with few (or no) previous posts who bumps an ancient thread for dubious reasons?

If not, we need one. They are popping up like toadstools!

I remember one doing that a while back. Every post revived an ancient thread with nonsense, then he disappeared. Not sure if he ever made it to 10 so he could start posting spam links. I have actually reported a couple of them over the years for monitoring. Maybe he was "silenced."

I know the system is not easily programmed for this, but my suggestion has been that a thread over a certain age (maybe 1 year?) could only be bumped by the OP and possibly someone else who had posted in it, to update it. It makes sense to start a new thread 98% of the time.

/end rant
