Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

In our last house, we had one directly behind us that was no fun to be around. The were Chinese (only mentioned for the context of this story). Every year, they bought 3 or 4 of the animals of the Chinese calendar, but by the end of the year that year's animals were gone and replaced by the next year's animal of the year. One year we had chickens getting in our yard constantly. Another year, their pit bull got loose and got into our gated driveway, and tried to go after my wife and our two kids (who were very young at the time). We had to call animal control about that because she could not get to her car to get out. Another year, they brought in cats that went feral, and we ended up trapping a half dozen of them. One year, they spray painted the fence between us white, and the spray blew through the gaps in the boards and covered our AC and pool equipment and the landscape bed/plants between the fence and our pool. We had a white landscape until the plants could grow out. They never mowed the back, and it was littered with shopping carts. There was always something.
I used to have hedges on 2 sides of the property I live on. Next door used to trim thier side of it. But the guy in back was elderly, so I did it, 3 times a year. Next door, one day said. We are putting up a privacy fence, so we are going to cut back our half of the hedges. I told them. If you do half, take the whole thing. They did and now I have a privacy fence on one side that needs to be painted. The guy behind me put his house up for sale so I removed the hedge from the rear. FINALLY! No more hedges... I came home from work a couple years ago and found a new privacy fence across the back of my yard. Last year he trespassed and moved my extension ladder collection ( consisting of 2 ladders) away from the fence so he could paint my side of his fence. And didn't put the collection back. The audacity of some people....

I've been drinking ground coffee(espresso) for the last month or so. Started with one cup, graduated to two. This past week I've been feeling like I'm experiencing a return to post covid fatigue syndrome. This morning I awoke with the thought that maybe it's the coffee that's burning me out. I'm fine until 2 or 3 o'clock, and then crash hard. So today I'm back on instant, and it's not waking me up like it used to. I'll stick with it for a few days to a week and we'll just see.

Well, you ARE near Fluffya, right? Isn't that like the epicenter of the Soft Pretzel World?

Just got an email from cannondale thanking me for recent cannondale bike purchase.

If it’s new bike day I am the last to know about it, pretty sure it’s a mistake.

Hmmmmm.

I sometimes get phishing emails thanking me for a recent purchase of a gaming computer to be shipped to some address not my own. The return email address is usually gmail or some such.

I do wonder how many people get caught up in those scams. I imagine for older, less mentally sharp people, things like that "Department of Social Security Administration" call that threatens to "suspend your account" can be pretty scary. There's a special place in hell for people who prey on the elderly.

The coffe repor:
In the olde days of my instant tenure--more than 8 years, I drank two cups in the morning and one or two throughout the day. This morning (granted I was watching individual time trials) I fell asleep midway through the fourth cup. Slept for an hour or so and got up and did some desbrozadoring(weedeating). I feel fine now. How long will it last?
