Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Velofix wants $300 to install the groupset. If I had the tools (to extract and install BB- crank needs like 56NM which I don’t have a wrench for) I’d do it myself.

I paid 231.00. Which turned out to be a sweet deal. He saved my bar tape, so didn’t have to buy that, and he cut my steerer tube for free.

The one thing I didn’t get. He broke down the prices of installation and the shifters were the most expensive part. If the shift cable was already installed, why would that be hard to install? Ive put hoods on different bars before it was easy.

edit: see what trek would charge to install it.

I suppose that's the going rate....but as an idiot mechanic I suggest you consider a DIY job, especially if you have a threaded BB it's stupid easy if you have the tool.

I did the full rebuild of my Habanero last year, and although it probably wasted a total of 4-5 hours, it worked out well and possibly even better than a random bike shop build. There are plenty of YouTube videos to help you through some of the trickier parts.

Maybe the shifter install included tweaking the brakes and derailleurs? Also, did he not use new cables? Not housing, which could be reused, but I'd definitely have run new cables.

Just checked the weather for the coming week. Festive 500, which exatcly the mileage I need, is going to be tough. Going to be in the teens almost everyday. Calculated I will need to ride 53 miles a day to reach my goal.

Im stuck in New York all day tomorrow, I am hoping the hotel gym will have some kind of cycle related thing that I can try and knock out some miles on. I will literally have nothing else to do.

It’s a press fit BB, which is an extra 75 in tools and I don’t have a wrench to torque the crank to spec.

If not for that, I’d do it myself. But I need the BB out for running the hose to the rear so it would be a trip to LBS- remove BB, install hoses and shifters, trip to LBS install BB

Installation of the levers is more than just slipping them on the bar and tightening the bolt. Correct positioning and making sure both levers are the same takes time. Even if the existing housing is being reused, feeding cables takes time. Anchoring, trimming and capping cables takes time. Adjusting derailleurs and brakes takes time. If the cable routing is internal, that takes more time than external.

I thought I was going to get to watch my daughter play softball with her old team yesterday, but the team pulled the plug on their games due to a lack of pitchers. Oh, well. Of course, my first thought was to go for a ride, but my daughter invited me to join her for a drive in the mountains. Driving fast on twisty roads is something we both enjoy, and her GTI is a fun and very capable car for that kind of entertainment. She did all the driving, and I enjoyed the ride. She's good...and fast.

I think he's referring to the time when 42nd Street was full of places like adult film theaters and peep show places, and there were people running Three Card Monty games on top of overturned trashcans. That was cleaned up a long time ago.

In cace you have been living under a rock for the last 24 hrs. Imagine being that guy. Southwest Airlines could not have come up with a better "Wanna get away?" ad idea. The stiff arm is icing on the cake.

Mine too. I wish I had saved some of those recipes. I had 5 sisters, you would think one of them could have been on the case. I ask for so little.
