I never raced but I've done considerable riding in snow and mud on cheap mountain bikes. Everything wears out fast. Even the jockey pullies get ground up. Snow sits on top of the brake pads and the snow contains sand. So as the snow melts it feeds sand into the braking surface. Used to go through rims. Since I lived a long way from stores I kept lots of parts at home.
By the time I got disc brakes I stopped snow riding and only go in mud sometimes.

Yeah, but how does it pair with maple syrup and a nice fried egg where the whites are just done but the yolk is still warm and runny?

All this talk of CX requires me to post a pic from the 1989 National Championships. I had broken my CX bike shortly before the championships and my shop quickly set up an old Trek touring frame to be used as a CX bike. My back up was a Giannia Motta road bike also set up with CX parts and gearing.
In 1987, I went to a CX race north of Iowa City and placed first in the Masters and third in the Cat 2s. It turned out to be their state championships and as an Illinois resident, I tried not to accept the trophies and money but they made me take it anyway.![lol](https://www.bikeforums.net/images/smilies/lol.gif)

There are times, seems like once a day lately, when I hit reply to thread and the site acts as if I hit quote. There is no way out of this 800 loop. This is today's edition.

The talk last evening was at the Merida English Library. Upon finding there were books for sale, I browsed some, and found one by Larry McMurtry. Another author you can't go wrong with. The bad news is it's a four book series. The good news is it's the first one.

I tend not to frequent said library because I don't like to mix it up with the clientele.

it wasn't major, relatively speaking. ablation for VT (have had a couple of those before) and AICD (implanted defibrillator) replacement plus additional atrial lead implanted. my heart is now paced 100% of the time pretty much, minimum of 60 (previous resting HR was around 35) which they hope will take some strain off.
the issue wasn't so much the procedures/surgery as the VT that landed me there and the conclusion about activity levels, heart function, etc.
but i'm feeling ok. docs keep piling on meds hoping to find a combo that reverses some of the issues

Good news men, a series of studies have conclusively shown how men can live 9 to 14 years longer than the current average with just a simple surgical procedure:
