Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My friend that got hit was my mentor when I started riding. We rode together frequently over years, mainly weekends, but we had been riding together a lot more the last 5 years or so. I hope he’s going to be ok.

Yea, this is my first and it’s kind of wide open. All the different categories are grouped together, e-bikes is a category as well, which I just found out about. Kind of dumb but anyways we all start at the same time. As I said before the start is sketchy so I plan on hanging back. I’m a grinder and can grind for a long time so I think I will be able to pick off most of the pack except for the cat 1 guys who will be gone right at the start.

Sadly you are not in my network (if you'd accept me as a patient), and more sadly, getting the disease under control to the point where the anemia would disappear doesn't seem likely. The Remicade isn't cutting it anymore, I'm afraid, and all the usual suspect drugs have already been exhausted.

Since you seem in a helpful mood, I have a more painful issue.

As I've mentioned before, I have night-time flareups in the hip/buttocks area. I haven't figured out what triggers it, and it comes without much warning. I go to bed and feel some tightness in the area, but when I wake up in the middle of the night there's a lot of pain. I can't do anything about it except take naproxen and wait for it to go down two or three hours later.

My theory is some kind of trochanteric bursa attack, though it feels more like it's between the trochanteric and ischiogluteal bursae. It's not the joint itself, but RA is listed as a risk factor for trochanteric bursitis, and the attacks have been more common when the RA isn't well controlled.

But I've talked about it at the witch doctor office and they don't seem to know what I'm talking about. Who else might I see to get to the bottom (pun intended) if this? An orthopedic doctor? A physical therapist? I don't know what to do about it.

E-bikes are allowed in a mass start event? Gross.

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Velo, when you get a chance, can you PM all of your life choices. I want to make sure I am not on the velo track.

Tough for me to diagnose online. Ideally you would see a sports medicine specialist and/or a physiatrist. My bias is against orthopedic surgeons because they are typically biased in favor of surgery. If you have a really good PT you could skip the physician and go directly to PT for treatment (which is often the best course anyway, plus it's drug-free and low risk).

did 8x3 40/20s this morning. I was rushed, wife got back from running late and I had an appointment so I felt all discombobulated.

I was able to complete the workout and hit the required numbers, just didn’t hold the 350’ that I personally want to hold.

Got buzzed by car with a bunch of jesus sticker on it. Felt Ironic.

I actually try to do that all the time, keeps bottles so much cleaner. Squirt some water out into the air before drinking if you've ridden through a big pile of manure.
It’s a full squish, seemingly with two sets of bottle cage mounts. 2021 GT Avalanche Comp. I think with 27.5” wheels . No cow patties, for sure, but the occasional road apple is expected. There are also free range sheep herds out and about. Good advice on the bottles. One less thing to have to buy and maintain.
Edit: Not full squish. Floating seat stays, whatever that means.

It never hurts to clear things with the locals first. There are lots of problems, here, with ejido land. Folks just take it, and deal with the consequences later.

Seems the Spanish farmers are angry that they have to compete with non-EU farmers who don't have to comply with the EU regulations. I understand their gripe, but don't know if forcing a bike race to cancel is winning hearts and minds.

I hope they don't get duped into moving to Russia like Canadian farmer Arend Feenstra. I'm afraid I'm unable to contain my Schadenfreude in this case

Farmers are far outside of the hearts and minds loop. They are generally just taken for granted. Thus the current problems.
