Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Gorgeous weather today, low 60s, cloudless blue skies - and here I am at work. But wait, there's a weekend coming up!

Yeah, about that....

Rain Thursday, Friday, and Saturday and into Sunday. The Monthly BF C&V ride's scheduled for Saturday, so there's a good chance that gets canceled.

As luck would have it, though, I have a brand new Elite Directo direct-drive trainer coming, which I hope will be here before the weekend. Also, a new cassette for it. The trainer is coming from Vacaville, and the cassette from SoCal. I hope the cassette gets here at least on the same day as the trainer...

I swapped mine because I wasn't keen on the lag before it engaged. It's not as loud as the course one as a bonus.

Nice day here but rain is coming back this weekend. Maybe. 40 something miles today and all 3 of the others were on e-bikes. This is something I couldn't have imagined even a few years ago. This time the one who usually stays human powered brought her e-bike because she was sick a few days ago but she was fine today.

They (especially she) have been urging me to get an e-bike so today I told them I am considering a new Basso non e-bike. Even chatted with a guy at Wrench Science about it and they have 15% off for 2 more days. I've been riding the Seven for almost 12 years so they know I'm full of hot air.

Todays ride I realized that my garmins HRV data is indeed correct. What I thought was allergies is indeed something more sinister.

After 7 days off, I was really looking forward to diving back into it. Had planned on doing a hard set of 6x4 with reduced rest between sets. Getting on the bike this morning, I felt like I was starting completely over, but initially thought that was just due to 7 days off, felt weird to be on the bike. Did my warm up thing and should have known it was going to go down hill fast, I was already starting to feel “it” before I finished my warm up. First set was a dumpster fire. I slowly dialed it up, target was 300 and I couldn’t maintain it at all. A minute in I realized 300 was a lost cause, so went for 250. 3 mins into I realized I wasn’t maintaining that, so I pulled the plug.

Opted for some zone 2-zone 3. Was still thinking that maybe my body was just slow to getting into the groove of things, but mile 40, after watching my HR being decoupled from my power for the last 25 miles (I am stubborn). I came to the conclusion I am indeed sick or something.

Thought my rib thingy was better but started coughing today with a vengeance, and now that hurts again.

A lovely day here too. But I’m still wiped out and sore from my brutal day in the city yesterday.
Had I not been so tired I might have considered going for s ride.

Don't hurt yourself bampilot06! If you can't complete a workout for any reason related to not feeling well - z1 is the answer not z2-3. And especially not z2-3 while you watch your heart rate increase for 25 miles lol.

Hopefully your stubbornness won't negatively affect your recovery too much! Get well soon.

Yea, I know but stubborn.

I also had to do single track today. It was pre planned, best friends birthday bash.

Went to buttermilk trails and made a fool of myself. Fell down a rock face, so yes I did crash today.

I suck at MTB.

that is not where I fell. Part of the trail is on this massive boulder. You have to ride down the side of it and it flows into the single track. I went off the side and missed the trail.

It's probably been about 5 years since I've ridden fixed gear, I should probably set up a fixie so I can train that coasting behaviour back out of me.

About to spend a week in PHX, the land of perfect fixie terrain, the time is right.

I understand. The gnarliest parts of the trail are never stop and take a picture time.

Rode 2 different MTBs today. 27 hard tail single font 11 (i think) in the back. Second was a dixie hard fail 29 inch.

The 27 was my size, but I did not handle it very well, didn’t help the front shock was locked out for the first half of the ride.

The Fixie was a size too small but honestly felt a lot better. Don’t know the brand but enjoyed the geometry too. Reminded me of my BMX days.

Fixie was a redline monocog. Upgraded front end to rock shox, no idea about the travel.
