Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It's 2024. There's probably a YouTube video about it.

Fair enough, but if your daughter in law was at her wits end and there were dishes in the sink, would you add to those dishes, or maybe help clean them? Things like that. I don’t expect my parents to come to my house and clean, but they tend to get more things out and we have to clean up after them as well as the kids, it creates more work. That’s all.

My mom keeps saying she wants to watch the kids for us, but she’s never changed a diaper, and when I asked her too she made an excuse. How can you watch my kids if you can’t change Simon’s diaper? So I mention that and she doesn’t have an answer. Discussion should be over, but a week later she will start asking to watch the kids again.

Maybe I am coming off wrong, but it’s just something we have been going through since my parents have become grand parents.
My parents aren't quite that bad, for example she will change diapers. I kind lashed out at my mom slightly when she was visiting last weekend while Liz was out on her overnight trip. Of course, my mom was critical of the situation, and "would never have done such a thing" and loves to comment on how she never left me until I was 8.

Each time Lilly would fuss slightly, she would find something else to be critical about. Eventually I got fed up and I told her that I needed her to stop being so critical and start being more helpful, and that everyone else was more helpful, especially my in laws (SIL, MIL etc). She immediately started helping me.

Important to note, I have a great relationship with my parents and there was only a slight tinge of frustration in my tone, really not that mad about it. I don't expect much to change long term and I'm fine with that.
