Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My old cat has started crossing the street for the first time in the 8 years we have lived here. He doesn't have car sense so we don't want him in the street but he really wants to go out.
So we've tried a harness and leash and he absolutely hates it. As soon as we put it on he gets a disgusted look on his face and won't move. He walked around the yard a little with the harness yesterday for the first time but has not moved with the leash attached.

Meh I’m not a fan of either one of those guys (goes without saying really), the Mavs v Wolves series is looking good.

glad to hear it. I no longer test either, and don’t see the point. The medical professionals though, seem to be obligated.

Mavs vs Wolves. This implies that the Wolves took out the Nuggets.

I just completed a long, long overdue job. The headset on my town bike had just about locked up. This took a year to accomplish, tight for awhile an then loose again. And then tight again. And since the only way I know to properly adjust an old school headset is with the front brake, i went ahead and put one of those on too.
I have not a clue how to adjust a modern headset.

My wife has the same reaction.

Or, at least I assume she would. I'm not brave enough to even suggest it.

I'm doing just fine.

Rain (twice) interrupted mowing activities, but the first round was short and the second one worked out pretty well for me to get in a 45-mintue power nap and then resume my extremely productive day. Still going with indoor work now.

Nothing much here. Just a pro racer doing motor-pacing behind a scooter ridden by an F1 driver.

France, actually. The F1 Monaco Grand Prix is this weekend, so they have been in that area earlier this week. Tiffany Cromwell starts a race in London tomorrow.

He does. Valtteri Bottas rides quite a bit (he's on Strava, if you're interested). He tends to do pretty well in his age group at gravel races, including wins at some smaller events, and top-10s at larger ones.

So, getting up at three and waiting until after seven for coffee…..So I stayed up until the ungodly hour of 9:00 and managed to sleep until 4:30. And then didn’t have coffee until after 5. A practice run for tomorrow.
Today’s sightings were a roadside hawk and a lesser roadrunner. Both common, but only off the beaten path.
I have no idea why you should need a blood test for an ear exam.

Super busy at work this week. The combo of our new EMR system plus catch-up from California “vacation” has meant 12-14 hour days. I just got home and snapped this pic of our peonies. Last year they were anemic due to deer grazing. This year mrs datlas decided to outsmart Bambi and we put a fence around them.

Peonies 1. Deer zero.

Makes sense. Monaco is too small to get any type of mileage...

Did you mow it? I love mowing snakes!

(not really. Used to mow a lawn on a hill in West Linn, OR fortnightly, and the snakes would fly out in all directions. Sometimes they'd smack my legs, get blood on my socks)

I was not mowing at the time. And I would not intentionally mow a non-venomous snake. What kind of person do you think I am?
