I used to ride that big like monthly before baby came around. Now, 4-5 is a long ride for me (instead of 5-6 hours). Really though, you don't need to ride that far to be an amateur Master's racer in this country, where road races are under 4 hours. The reason to do it is because you want to, not because its necessary for the training. Going forward, I will learn empirically how infrequently I need to ride long (again 4-5 hours) to have road race legs. My crit and TT power isn't really far off at all from my peak.

I just got a hall pass to race state champs (SCNCA) Master's road race. I will race the 35+ cat 1-3. It's "only" 59 miles with 2,600' of climbing. The course is in the county and I know it well, podium'd last year in the same race. I'm confident I have enough endurance to handle that and the four climbs on the course, once at the end of each lap. I have good enough legs to be a competitor, but as always it depends on who shows up. Would be so killer to have a California Bear jersey in the road race!!!

I don’t race at all, and the only thing I’ve ever wanted to do was just ride a long ways reasonably quickly and comfortably.

Hopefully I’ll be able to chill out with working at the bike shop as much on Saturdays and start more consistently doing bigger days. Yesterday was the first Saturday I’ve been off work and totally free in a few months and holy cow do I feel a lot better mentally.

Interesting ride today. I took Dreadnought, my Battaglin. What a great bike!! Indeed, another rider told me so, several times, at a stoplight.

Then, there I was, 5 miles from home, coming downhill at 30+ mph, when suddenly I felt like the two space shuttles in "Armageddon", passing through the meteor shower. It felt like I was riding behind a gravel truck, but there wasn't one anywhere around. Then I realized - Bees! I was able to confirm this because one of them (fortunately only one!) stung me on the leg. The stinger was still there when I got home, and The Younger Boy pulled it out.

Then, a mile later, I was passed by a guy in a Cinzano jersey. I had two thoughts. First, 1) "Mama! The Italians! The Italians are coming!", and 2) I should ride up next to him with my pump in my hand and a nasty look on my face. But then I though, "What if he never saw the movie?" So I didn't.

EZ day on tap. Man IDK what it is about the combination of the race yesterday, travelling (AWFUL traffic coming home) or the beer and chicken sando I had at lunch, but I am feeling pretty tired and lazy! Absolutely gorgeous out too. So, after 15 minutes outside on our perfect San Diego weather, I decided to come home and hop on the trainer. Feeling a bit better already, and I imagine I'll continue to do so after another 30' of mindless z1/2 noodling ITG to get some more circulation. Gonna follow it up with the lighter of my two weekly core routines.

If I leave the garage door open, that's kinda like riding outside, right?

oh, gotcha haha. Yes, the IPA and sandwich were separate . English, how doe it work? It's especially hard when typing while riding the trainer Just cruising Tempus and getting some XP. Only a few more levels till I get the level 71 squirrel cap. I must have that squirrel cap lol.

While outside, I swung by the ATM and thought my TCR Pro was looking aptly named. With Di2 12 speed Ultegra and carbon bits its pretty end-game. I mean, I wouldn't say no to a DA crank, Cadex wheels, Giant stem and Cadex bars, but thats low on my priority list. Wanna get carbon wheels for the MTB and then a new TT bike with fitting, so road upgrades aren't happening any time in the next several years.

I'm not enough of a pure roadie or velominati type to bother with a properly staged photo, so this is the best you are going to get from me

Got our goal today accomplished and then some. Tomorrow will be an easy day. My arse is dragging. I need to figure out my sprinkler system. Only 1 zone is working and it's been dry so I had to water using a hose and attach a sprinkler.

The cold is lingering and much coughing up of lung material is happening. I better not have an issue with my procedure on Friday.
