Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Actually, the nap itself is very short, but the downtime occupies the entire afternoon. Among the gringos in the city, it’s called getting flat.
What is downtime if you are not napping?

And then I started thinking that if it’s wild enough out there for javelinas, it’s wild enough for jaguars. So today I stayed on a more well used road, and something dog sized left the road far enough ahead that I couldn’t see it clearly. And it wasn’t in an area where a dog would likely be. We have five different wild cats in the area, so who knows? We are small towns and villages plopped down in wild country. Years ago I saw a three toed sloth road kill, and on another occasion a cat I couldn’t identify. On one mtb ride years ago, I saw what a biologist told me was likely a tapir.

Graduation update. Heidi did go to graduation. It was 2 hours. Immediately after she went to pieces with 2+ hours of crying/sobbing. I do hope it was cathartic, the past week has been really tough for her.

It’s not easy being 22.

Yeah. I looked at the topic but never paid a visit until it was too late because I originally neglected to notice who the OP was. Then when I saw the lock, I paid closer attention.

Fun fact: we are supposed to say STI not STD. Sexually Transmitted INFECTION as “disease” is thought to be pejorative and/or judgmental.

Of course on BF STI means brifters so that could be confusing.

I first got a bike with STI back in '93. I have never gotten a STI from a bike.

Chairs don’t agree with my physique. I am much more comfortable flat, or nearly so(hammock).
Nor do beds agree. More than one night in a row and my low back, hips and especially the left leg suffer and don’t function, sometimes at all, in the case of the leg/knee. How fortunate that I find myself living in an area where the vast majority of the population lives in hammocks, when not upright. And how fortunate that I find myself living in an area with near continuous power through this hot snap we are experiencing. I read an article in the paper this morning about whole neighborhoods in Merida being without power for days at a time. I read another article blaming the USA’s high interest rates for a slowdown in the Mexican economy, the near entirety of which is export based.
98 degrees F. Going for a high of 105. Maximo and I have entered the enclosed space rife with high powered fans, and an underpowered air conditioner. Suffice it to say we’ve gone flat. I am still sipping on that second cup, so the nap will come somewhat later than normal.

22 wasn't difficult for me. 57 through now has sucked. I imagine it gets more difficult from here on out.
Maybe I should ask our senior members like Billy, Dennis, Seeds or Big John. apologies if i forgot any others in 70+ cohort.

5 days of zwift. My feelings towards it have not changed. I have been wanting to ride outside, but the heat down here is crazy, and when it’s not hot it’s windy. Havnt been able to meet up with mojo yet.

It's been a long time, but I don't recall a hammock being particularly comfortable.

There's a step counter available on iPhone.

According to my watch, 8,000 steps a day is a good target for being fit.

You should probably know this as a doctor.

Not mine.

We walked all the way to Culver City and there was a serious car show going on. Lots of classic cars but not a single Saturn.

More pics on my Strava feed but here are a couple examples.
