Looking to upgrade my floor pump. Would like a nice large accurate dial. I'm old and larger readout is better. Also would like the locking presta valve chuck to lock as you push on. Most that I have used, the lock lever pulls to lock which tends to pull the chuck off while you lock. This is for the home so no need for small light pumps. Anybody have or know one that has these options?

I've used a cheap Zafal from Walmart for the last 16 years or more. I did replace the chuck once after about 5 years. Most will probably say get a Silca or Joe Blow. But for the money I could buy a lot of cheap pumps and have a new one every few years. Especially if the cheap ones last 15 years.

That is what I have as well. It works fine other than the chuck. I will see what chucks are out there.

My Topeak Joe Blow booster floor pump was my worst purchase ever. The cheap plastic head would grab on to valves and never let go no matter what. I gave it one more chance by buying the metal Twinhead DX upgrade kit they sell, and now it's the best pump I've ever used. Solid, reliable connect and disconnect even when blasting 100 psi all at once to seat tubeless tires beads.

Pressure gauge is nice and big too. Only drawback is that the pump is too tall and huge for my daughter to use. So I still have to keep another floor pump around for when she wants to help.

Looking back, I'd probably only buy it if you need the tubeless functionality, though. The head makes the pump, apparently, and it's easy to find a different head or even use their metal head kit on a different pump.

My Park PFP-2 still going strong after around twenty years. Never replaced any part of it.
It uses a lever to secure to the valve. Both Schraeder and Presta on the pump head.
The Schraeder came in handy for kids bikes, balls, and other applications.
I mainly bought it for the pressure gauge high up on the shaft. Easier to read!
Park, no doubt, went thru some iterations since then.

Been using this pump for two years now and its doing good. It has a large scale on it so I can read it. The base of it is metal. The cost of it is reasonable.

Most any of the big name and expensive bicycle floor pumps will also sell their air chuck alone or as a rebuild kit. Some like this Silca presta chuck.

It doesn't have the lever you don't like. There maybe be less expensive of a similar version out there. But I'm happy with the lever. Though there are many different versions of the lever locking presta chuck. And many don't work all that well.

It meets both of your requirements:
1. It has a huge 80 mm (= 3.15 inches) gauge.
2. One lowers the lever to lock the chuck onto a Presta valve and flips the lever up to release the chuck.

Mine works fine but I want to buy that head upgrade anyway now!

I have the Lezyne CNC floor drive with the 3.5'' gauge that I like. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for - quality. It has theABS-1 Pro Chuck, which required adaptation at first because I was used to a flip-lever chuck, but I like it now.

While the newest version was changed to a lever-lock head, the version linked above-- and which I have had for many years-- uses a push-on locking head. It's double-sided for presto and schraeder, and works reliably and easily with one hand. It takes a bit of thumb pressure to depress the top of the head as you pull it off, but it doesn't seem like much.

I like that the digital readout lights automatically and immediately displays air pressure, which is easy and great for checking. Just having a lighted display is great, and makes reading gauge easy in any conditions.

It's a quality, heavy, steel built pump in the base and cylinder, with a nice wooden handle and sensible pressure hose routing and mounting. The CR2032 coin cell lasts a really long time, like years.

I've been very happy with mine, and done no maintenance other than one battery change; it's been perfect and trouble-free for several years, the exact number I don't recall, but maybe something like 7 years now. I dunno.

Don't know who makes it for Giant, but I bought a Giant Control Tower 2 from the LBS and does everything I want. The only thing you might not like about it is the gauge is down by the base, but the numbers are a decent size. I've not owned a lot of pumps, but the pump head on this is great! The handle for locking it on the valve isn't stiff to operate, and the same hole for presta or schrader, and it holds! I've had it for many years and no problems.

I bought a black and white Walmart Raptor branded, 2 headed floor pump back in 2012 or so. It’s still going fine. The Presta valve hole occasionally dislikes some of the tubes I use and as its getting close to optimum pressure which for me is about 100 lbs, it can just spit the hook as it were and it makes for a bit of repeated frustration before it finally grabs and gives me what i want. I’ve been thinking about one of those small lithium battery inflators as it’s also gotten difficult to get our car tires filled here anymore especially when it gets cold and the TPMS light goes off. I don’t know how well they work for a bike and their pricing is a bit out of line for what they are too. There’s a really small one made to go into your back pocket or the carry bag of the bike but at 50 bux is it worth it? Maybe if it was 25-30 bux I’d go for one.

I just got this and the new valve head has a shorter tube (annoying but bearable) but also has the pump end adapter thing already inserted in the tube and the pump also already has one in place, after my having pulled the old plastic-head tube off it. Neither seem to be removeable by a human. How did you deal with that, may I ask?

Came here to say I sorted this with advice from Maddog and also that my Zilch pump arrived yesterday and that pumphead is pure genius. Even works with zero effort on my vestigial valves that came with my Bontrager RSLs.

The Silca Terra ($159, which though pricey is worth it) is by far the best pump I've ever had. Found it via Bicycling Magazine: "The Terra was an easy consensus choice for our best overall pump."

It looks like a lovely product but for tubeless tyres, you have to produce a high volume and pressure initial burst of air to pop the bead into place on the rim and seat the tyre so it holds air, without the air coming in through the valve just leaking straight back out around the edges of the tyre. You lock the outlet on the pump and then pump to pressurise it in an internal chamber, and then release it all at once.

yes. Doesn’t happen that often, or I might even learn. (2/3 of my bikes are tubeless.) I get yearly tune ups, and tires get replaced then. I am not, as they say, handy.

The OP wasn't looking for that. The problem with the Silca Terra recco is that it uses a lever lock, which the OP explicitly said they didn't want.

Yeah good point, I was speaking more generally for floor pump recs. This is what is so good about the Zilch - only tried it on three tyres so far but that trigger mechanism is genius. Presta only.

I have had no problems like the OP was concerned to avoid. I think the lock lever works perfectly.
