going solo? You could ask sierra rider about his rides, his pictures look like tm territory.
Another good source is biker395.he has a place in june lake and has done a lot of miles in the sierras. He's super friendly.
Of course, you have done a bit of riding up there yourself.

I forgot to charge my phone last night, so I'm waiting on that before I go for a ride. When I was younger, so much younger than today, I didn't even HAVE a phone with me on rides, but I figure that being on the high side of 65, it's a good idea to have one. Better to have and not need than need and not have.

Meanwhile, I'm feeling sleepy, as if a hypnotist were swinging a watch and saying, "Your eyelids are getting heavy, so heavy you can barely keep them open..."
I guess this is life in retirement - the perennial battle between wanting to do things and wanting to do nothing.

You need to realize that it should not be a battle. There is no wrong choice.

The one time I forgot my phone on a ride (last year), some freak bad luck caused me to lose the quick link 4 and a half miles from home (yes I know I should carry a spare). I thought I had my phone but when I stuck my hand in my pocket to get it, whaddya know, no phone. Thankfully it was either downhill or flat all the way back so I was able 2.5 miles downhill but was stuck walking after that. Some very kind people hanging out in their front asked if I needed and gladly accepted.

gonna do a little Sunday funday w a small number of family and friends, w monday off an whatnot. there may even be an after party w some nightcap margs. after party meaning after Lily bedtime.
Gonna do Mexican - trying my hand at marinading 6 lbs of thighs in the AM for grilling in the early evening, pollo asado style. gonna start with achiote/annato paste so not truly from scratch (like the NYT recipe is). And then a big batch of Mexican rice - with El Pato sauce and seasoned broth after an initial browning of raw rice in oil and garlic. Gonna rely on guests for sides and such

Help me decide, oh Afflictionati.
Mrs. tm is going to London with a girlfriend, so I'm thinking about doing a road trip slash altitude camp slash climbing camp while she's away. Minimal requirement is a cabin/condo with a kitchen. Some candidates:
Kirkwood Mountain Resort. Good elevation, great climbs a brief drive away. Close to zero services at the resort.
Kingsbury Grade, Stateline NV. Decent elevation, restaurant on site, big climbs nearby, South Lake Tahoe services.
Bear Valley Village. Good elevation, climbs out the door (Pacific Grade, Ebbetts Pass), small grocery, pizza nearby.
Mammoth Lakes. Great elevation, killer climbs, real town with shops/grocery/coffee/restaurants. Farthest drive.

My experience with napping is that I tend to wake up feeling more tired and beat up than I was before I lay down. So I went for a ride, and had a great time and now I'm feeling better than I did when I was thinking about a nap. Plus, I got in a nice 24 miles.

Fast learner?
Or was it ‘the charm”?
Such a pleasure to send low quality posts while nursing my head cold. Did walk the new dog this AM with the Mrs. It was his first time away from the house (day 3 since we got him) and he did great. Walk a few feet, sit down, take it all in, rinse and repeat. One low growl at another dog, but not on the second. Also managed to get out the lawn tractor and mow the front and back 40s and then play again with the puppy. Our cat Kevin, is really interested in Benny, and hangs with us every time we take the dog out. They chase each other which is fun to watch, even though the cat can whack Benny every so often - showing that he really is an A hole at heart.
