Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

In a first for me, I sweated through the wrapper of the Peanut M&Ms that I'd picked up on the ride, and made a melted mess of 'em in my jersey pocket.
I've seen chocolate with sea salt, but never with sweat salt

I once saw a small one that was shedding its velvet. Quite a bloody scene.

Saw a bull elk in Montana as I was leaving camp before sunrise. He was about that size. He took off before I could fire up the camera.

A bull elk in Montana is a whole lot larger than this guy. It's the perspective.

Since this was my first long, sunny ride of the year, I got to play, "Tan Lines, or Just Road Grime?!" in the shower.

For those keeping score, the bib lines are legit, but the sock lines were 80% dirt.

Did you ride some gravel, or was it just grime kicked up from riding in the gritty city?

Flying back worries me. We would do southwest and i’m worried there will be some hiccup with the dog and the carrier and we will just lose money. Plus we promised amelia she could come and that’s more money I want to spend on a plane ticket.

It will be fun to do a road trip. Lily and I have never done one, and amelia hasn’t seen much of the states yet. I pray the dog doesn’t puke.

When I got my lab he didn’t puke just cried the whole time.

This has turned into a nightmare. First lowe’s failed to deliver everything when they were supposed to. I had a week off to put the fence up but all I had was concrete. When they finally deliver the post and panels I had to go back to work.

My yard is sloped, so we wanted the fence to follow the slope instead of leaving a gap or stepping.

When I put the post in the ground I put them level straight up. Came home last week to put the panels up and well, because the post are vertical the panels wouldn’t reach both post at an angle.

I then bought brackets to install the panels but the panels are heavy. I can’t move them by myself, so holding the panels in place to measure the brackets wasn’t going to work.

My next ideas was to install runners which is what I am doing now. I’ll attach the panels to the runners so it won’t matter where the post are.

500 dollars later……. I regret my decision to do this myself. Plus I ****ed my back up 2 weeks ago mixing the concrete and it’s still not okay.

Veterans with PTSD snd skittish animals just love fireworks. Warned our immediate neighbors twice that we were calling the Sheriff if they let off their illegal fireworks from the tribes in a county which bans outdoor fireworks because of fire danger. Our dog was freaking out and several neighbor dogs were doing the same. It would have been nice if they had consulted their neighbors first to see if it would be cool.

No gravel. Just dirt and sand from construction, run-off, winter salt & sand, etc.

Only a blueberry old-fashioned from the gas station. I wanted Ding-Dongs or Cup Cakes, but they wanted $2.99 for 'em - that's extortionate!

I loved running, until I couldn't do it anymore (back and knees). I was a cyclist too, and slid into only cycling.

Supposedly, LAPD is trying to crack down on the fireworks this year and are going to use drones with heat sensing devices. We get the skyrockets that set off car alarms and rattle the windows in our house.

Just saw a post that reminded me of EricF . I know he was caught up in that fire last December. I hope he has a place to stay. I know building permits have been slow to be issued. Anyone know?

Today I rode the mtb around the neighborhood again. Wore the air boot again with an old flat pedal. Lots of clunking with it hitting the crank and the rear triangle.
It hurt a lot less than last time so maybe I'm making a little progress. I worry about slipping off the pedal but it hasn't happened. I try not to push too hard on that side but I want to try and get my heart working. Nothing flat around here but the gearing on that bike makes most of the hills a spin thing. Certainly can't stand on the pedals, which also makes shifting around on the saddle kinda sketchy.

Still haven't received the bone stimulator even after multiple calls to the doctor and the referral people at the group HQ. It will be 5 weeks since he "ordered" it. Tomorrow it will be 11 weeks since I broke my foot. 11 weeks since I rode a road bike, by far the longest since 1988.
