Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Apparently, someone ordered $1100 dollars worth of something on my PayPal account, and I can click the link in the message, log in, and stop it being paid. Did you know that PayPal sends emails from personal accounts on HotMail? It surprised me, too!

The italic typeface and numbering format lead me believe it's a legit 1930 AZ plate. I reckon it could be a replica however.

As long as that Abilene air doesn't start blowing over this way, I think I'll be alright.

But the fact that it was legal in 1930 doesn't mean it is legal now, unless it has a think stack of renewal stickers affixed.

You gonna get an classic/historical vehicle in AZ? Here's how you drive it with olde plates:

$10 annual renewal? They have a similar deal here in California but I doubt it's that cheap. I just renewed my 21 year old car and it was $165 plus I had to get it smog checked.

Nope. What's the definition of "historic vehicle"?

$35 for my 2015 classic. No smog test required in my county.

Interestingly, my 36 year old motorcycle with 186,000 miles I think has only needed oil changes and chain lubing/cleaning for the last couple of years. It hasn't always been this smooth but the last two years sure have been quiet on the maintenance front. Granted it doesn't make 600hp, only about 60hp on a good day, but still, carbureted designs from the 80's aren't generally known for such low maintenance.
I’ve had a lot of trouble free vehicles, starting with a ‘91 Integra hatch (civic lol) that i put a TON of miles on. 5 speed. No AC. no power windows. No radio stock. loved that car, all it needed was a clutch at 100k and a couple oil changes. My S2000 never needed a thing done, but it didn’t get a lot of miles.

the EV is odd though, just plug it in once in a while and that’s it. oh, and deny the requested software updates every time i turn it on 😂😂😂

I'd have to say the most reliable car I've ever owned is also the newest - a 2014 Dodge Challenger. Part of it is just how reliable cars are the last 20 years, and another part is that I think it's overbuilt for my use. I used to have a Subaru Outback - 2.5L flat four making 165 bhp. compared to 5.7L V8 making 372 bhp. I drive the Dodge about as fast as the Subaru, but if I drove it as HARD as I drove the Subaru, I'd be in jail!

We have a 2012 Prius that has a common Gen2 failure mode - leaky head gasket. We put some of sealant thing on there which lasts 6 months - 2 years according to our tech. I walk to work and Liz WFH so it only gets driven 2-3 times per month.

That failure mode inspired us to get a 2023 (current gen) Honda CRV Hybrid Sport. It's quite nice, neither Liz nor I had owned a shiny new car. Hopefully it lasts a long time. Before that, we were on a '06 Corolla and Mazda 3, which were both very reliable.
