Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

leave work around 4:30 - 5:00, get back at midnight or so. I usually grab some pasta and a beer in the pub afterwards.

Apparently it was in Collingwood, but as usual there's confilcting reports as to the details. Last night it was apparently one perp, and it was near the low-rise housing estate (very dodgy area, used to live a block from there)....and now on the radio they said it was a gang. Either way, it has to be drug related knowing the area.

The sobering part I guess is that I picked up my fiancee from Sth Kensington station yesterday on my sparkly orange roadie - which isn't the most salubrious station in the world - and there was this dodgy guy, totally off his skull pushing a 50 buck K-Mart bike and swearing to himself.

Perhaps we should take a leaf out of the Yanks book and all pack Uzis when we go riding? Seriously though, wtf is up with this country?

Welcome aboard Iguana! It's just like home!

Uzi? They are so overrated. I've only ever carried a .22 and a .357 Magnum, but never an Uzi.

Took my daughter to Jr Dev Champs, under sufferance of course. When a conflict of sporting events occurs the little children always win. Bugger.

But don't worry, I'll be happy to bring along some more of that serious pain that you seem to enjoy to the crit season. Caught A bunch twice on the Akuna Bay climbs on Saturday. The B bunch have now had me expelled for being antisocial!

we did, about 10 kms in to the race. Then I got dropped 5 kms later. Rode by myself for the remaining 35, I finished about 6 minutes back from the leading 3.

Rod B just couldn't wait, he towed the other 2 in so they could win it in the sprint.

As per usual. I used to be exactly like that, but one day I figured I had better learn how to win a race sprint. So I spent 12 weeks and 18 races learning many different ways to lose a sprint. And in the end I started to learn how to enjoy the pain and even won a few.

Somehow I don't think Rod is ever gonna be like that. The problem is he's so one-dimensional that he uses the same tactics in every race. Kinda makes handicaps a little less enjoyable with all the rediculous surging that he does.

is this story about McEwen and Matt White old news?

During a stage at the Tour Down Under, McEwen, White and a few French guys were in a small break, and the 2 Aussies had a deal that they wouldn't chase each other if either one got away. White shot off the front, and apparently, McEwen started offering the French guys money to chase down White! They didn't , and Matt White won the stage.

It's old news, but one that some of the Aussies on tour keep in perpetual motion. I was talking to a physio who went over to help some of the Aussies prep for the TDF and he was told the exact same tale by a guy on the table (remains anonymous). There was a quote that went with it, something like "Robbie will end up being a sad, lonely, and broke old man if he keeps that up."

It would be much cheaper and easier if he'd just said we make better wine and cheese than them
