hey Bern, I just stocked up on Singer 'all purpose' oil from the supermarket -- 2 bucks a pop!

I've ditched all the fancy lubes.

The Singer goes on thinner, is not tacky AT ALL, and therefore picks up heaps less gunk. :)

All your sewing machines will run smoother now.

motor oil and mineral spirits mixture is just as good, lots of that in $20. And I can whip out a few pairs of pants in a day with no snagging, easy !

Is this for the chain only or for other parts of the bike as well?

well, I'm no expert, so don't go changing your whole lube philosophy based on my recommendations :p, but....I did actually drop a little on the brake pivots on my older brakes.

Aussi, my lube philosphy is to drown everything in WD40 and then wipe off when it soaks in. This includes the chain! Given this, I reckon anything more scientific will be an improvement.

g'day all, iv been yousing multi purpose oil for acouple of years, can be yous"d on brake arms chains ect, a small amount goes along way, and can be easly wiped off .Most bike shop lubricants are parritive to of price of oil. Battening down the hatches as a is storm on the way

WD40 doesn't work properly as a lubricant. It's really just a water displacer.

How's this for Big Brother - So I was recently put on 'probabtion' on the Serotta forums for mentioning in the line of conversation the price of one of my frames. *gasp* What this entails is that you can still post, but they review your post before letting it go through.

What they don't tell you is that....they don't review you posts. They never appear, effectively banning you anyway...or they only review your posts during business hours, which is pointless anyway as we don't opperate on US time and most posting happens after hours.

Now, I don't mind a slap on the wrist. I push boundaries coz that's what they're for, and owning a small company and running it on the smell of an oily rag means you have to go guerilla, but this is plain juvenile and fascist. At the very least they could've just PM'd me and said 'fair go mate' and I would've said 'fair call, I'll tone it down'.

But no, that would've been adult.

Great work! you'll find it works well on the all pivots on your treadly, just don't put too much on. I also run my chain through a dry rag wipe about once a week to remove crud buildup before I lube.
WD40 is not real good, I find it washes $#!+ into the chain.

...and while you're sewing stuff run me up a coupla jerseys, size large, tanx.

its a blast and everyone is really nice

Sydney and AUS is great....and I'm here until Jan. over from San Diego, CA

Sydney is probably the most liveable city for me over NY and San Francisco although I love both those cities for their own reasons.....
