Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Badly. Steel and Ti are the only materials to consider for a touring bike. An aero Scandium touring bike would just look silly, but I think you know that already

I cough a litle bit after I've finished a hard-ish ride, not really anything I worry too much about. I put it in the too-hard-basket along with trying to figure out why it is if I jump into the shower within say 5 minutes of finishing a training ride, there's an acrid ammonia type smell eminating from me.

Of course, nothing's worse than mis-timing a gulp of Gatorade when you're gasping for breath!

So just a common thing when one over-exerts themselves or somthing to look into?
had somthing similar to this recently. ended up keeping me off a bike for near 2 months was a virus, but pretty much the symptoms you described. 3 or so courses of anti biotics later and countless trips to the health food store im OK..... Was mis diagnosed on at least 4 occasions as well which didnt help, whooping cough, asthma, punctured lung ( not kidding!), bronchitis, pretty much turning out to be none of the above.

Did you eventually change your doctor?

Punctured lung?!!!???? "Well doc, I just woke up one evening and as I was getting out of my coffin I noticed this wooden stake protruding from my chest. D'ya think that could've caused it?"

Geez you lot are smarter than you look.

Good to hear it's pretty common and none of you have carked from it yet. Might have to go see the doctor about it anyway. Sin't it the go for all the pros to chug on the old ventolin for a few hours before their races? If it's good enough for them it's good enough for me.

So Tigerboy. What you know about making touring frames? Would you knock me out something that looks like a chopper or what?

that was from 4 or 5 different docs! i had a lot of trouble breathing for like 3 - 4 days at one stage and they thought that i may have had a v slow leak, turned out it wasnt thankfully. thing that actually cleared up the whole issue was a natural remedy mum got me onto.

It was no different when i hurt my knee doing martial arts. 3 or 4 docs tell me that its an ACL. im skeptical cause although it hurts i didnt have the loss of stability. so off to the specilaist, $600 and an MRI later, no problems detected. turned out to be Tibial band sydndrome or somthing like that where i had tight glutes pulling everything else out of alignment.

How do you get a slow leak in yer lung? Not like you're breathing down burrs or anything?

What was the remedy btw? My old mum would probably try to get me to snort manuka honey or something.

apparantly if you take a reasnoble sized hit ( id come off a mtb a few days before) you can have your lungs leak but it doenst get noticable till later. so i was told.....

remedy was a tablet thing avail from most health food shops. called" clear the ways" or somthing like that. apparantly its chinese herb mixture. my GF tried it as well for her respiratory thing she had recently and it cleared her up as well. must be tigers penis or somthing in it.....

You know you live in a cool country when Roy and HG can come on the radio and make jokes about Armstrongs impending wedding night potentially involving a cocktail of Speed and Viagra!

WTF: is Armstrong a closet Aussie? From a report in cycling news

Armstrong said he would consider a return to racing "to piss the French off."

That's the spirit!!
